In this highly collaborative role, the French Localization Specialist is responsible for ensuring that French internal communications and customer-facing touchpoints are grammatically correct, consistent, accurate, adhere to our editorial style guide and brand guidelines, and have been reviewed and approved by the necessary stakeholders. They are accountable for the final approval of their deliverables and review of the finished product. They must be an expert in localization and translation norms, processes and technology. This role is a key resource within Capital One's French localization hub, supporting globalization efforts across various teams and content types, including internal and HR communications and systems for French-Canadian associates, and customer-facing materials for francophones across Canada.
Your Responsibilities:
The role involves collaborating with members of the Creative Solutions team and peers across the business, including HR, Enterprise-level stakeholders, legal, brand, intent and product owners, to help facilitate the delivery of quality, error-free French experiences. This includes:
  • Providing high-quality French translations and localization of English content, collaborating with the process team and external language service providers when required.
  • Revising French content to ensure consistency with brand standards, editorial guidelines and guidance from legal and compliance.
  • Reviewing French experiences to ensure alignment with the English intent and Enterprise-level requirements.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of fast-evolving localization technology and industry standards.
  • Utilizing Trados Enterprise, our Translation Management System (TMS), for receiving, completing and delivering localization work.
  • Advocating internally for localization best practices and educating stakeholders on the value and importance of French content quality.
  • Advocating for the customer and ensuring that communications are delivered in plain language.
  • Maintaining a fundamental understanding of all products, marketing language, legal disclosures, and various types of Enterprise content (e.g., internal communications and systems).
  • Collaborating with business partners across the Enterprise to gather and integrate feedback, resolving conflicts/inconsistencies and addressing stakeholder concerns throughout all stages of development.
  • Being accountable for final approval of deliverables and a last review of the finished product.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience in localization/translation.
  • Excellent localization, translation, editing, and proofreading skills, with a strong command of Canadian French (grammar, punctuation and spelling).
  • Understanding of cultural nuances and regional variations within French-speaking Canada.

  • Meticulous attention to quality and detail.
  • Strong technical acumen, including proficiency with TMSs (preferably Trados Enterprise) and machine translation tools, as well as working knowledge of Adobe Workfront and generative AI technology (e.g., Google Gemini).
  • Proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English.
  • Highly collaborative and organized; able to facilitate discussion and manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines while proactively communicating with stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, including managing interactions with new intent requesters.
  • Ability to proactively identify and flag potential issues (including legal and compliance risks) to management.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A degree/diploma in localization/translation, linguistics, communications or a related field.
  • Experience localizing content in a regulated or financial sector.
  • Experience localizing tech/software and internal communications content.
  • Familiarity with style guides, glossaries and terminology management.
  • Experience with Localization Quality Assurance (LQA).
  • Experience with linguistic testing.
