Job Description:
We are in search of a Senior Associate with specialized expertise in energy policy, with a particular focus on oil & gas and geothermal energy. Senior Associates are responsible for developing unique investment ideas based on rigorous policy analysis and understanding how policy, regulation, and market dynamics impact the energy sector.
The Senior Associate will monitor and analyze federal and state policies, regulations, and political developments affecting oil & gas, geothermal energy, and related energy markets. They will interact regularly with politicians, regulators, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and investors across the U.S. energy sector. The ideal candidate will have exceptional analytical skills, creativity, strong writing abilities, and a demonstrated interest in policy and financial markets.
A successful candidate will be a highly qualified professional with at least 3 years of experience in energy policy, oil & gas, geothermal, equity research, policy analysis, consulting, investment banking, or a related field.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will possess the following attributes:
- Strong knowledge of U.S. energy policy and markets, particularly oil & gas and/or geothermal energy (e.g., state/federal leasing policies, produced water, macroeconomic oil and gas impacts, SPR, etc.)
- Intelligence and the ability to think creatively
- The ability to express differentiated opinions clearly and forcefully, supported by robust analysis
- Strong client servicing and interpersonal skills
- Strong writing and communication skills
- The ability to develop and discern high-quality, value-oriented investment ideas
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently
- Passion for combining policy, politics, and energy markets with investing
- Ability to assess how regulatory and political developments may affect companies, industries, and investment opportunities
Education and Experience Requirements
- Four-year Bachelor’s degree required
- At least 3 years of experience in energy policy, oil & gas, geothermal, consulting, banking, policy analysis, investment analysis, or a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience covering oil & gas and/or geothermal energy
- High academic achievement
- Strong MS Excel skills
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Capstone offers a competitive benefits package, including health, vision, dental insurance, paid vacation, travel stipend, and 401(k). The expected compensation for this role will be $90,000–$130,000 per annum, with eligibility in Capstone's annual bonus pool.
This position is based in our Washington, DC office. Capstone is in-person Monday through Thursday, with flexible work from home Fridays.
