Job Details:The Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) Dean’s Office seeks a Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for our Macon Campus. The incumbent is responsible for upholding the mission of the school and is responsible for providing overall leadership and oversight of the programs that support students and enhance their educational experience in the School of Medicine.


 

Responsibilities:

The Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs oversees the office of academic affairs, is designated by the Dean as the chief academic officer of the medical education program, and reports directly to the Dean.  The position is responsible for directing the design and development of comprehensive academic programs to assure effective long-term learning benefits, ensuring the accurate communication of curriculum information to the faculty, staff, and students. This accountability includes such essential tasks as: Coordinating maintenance of all curriculum information, including coordinating the process of common course titles from proposal stage through implementation for all new and existing courses and programs, coordinating with the Curriculum Committee and the Registrar's Office.

The Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is responsible for such essential tasks as: Working with Program Directors, Department Chairs, and Directors to coordinate the process for recruitment, orientation, mentoring, and evaluation of part-time faculty (Adjuncts), including networking to assist in the development of a more diverse part-time faculty pool.  Supervises the part-time lecturer (tutor) contract process.  Coordinates the process for evaluation of part-time faculty.  Works with the School of Medicine’s Human Resources Liaison to assure academic programs have instructors and adjuncts for all sessions, large groups, and medical practice(s) required.

Qualifications:

Candidates must:

  • Hold a terminal degree (M.D., Ph.D.)

  • Prior experience in a medical school or academic center, with excellence in major educational leadership including but not limited to roles associated with higher education leadership, graduate education, recruitment and human resources

  • Ability to manage a major unit of the medical school and provide services at five MUSM campus locations

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and to work collaboratively with other units within the medical school and university-wide to support the mission of the medical school

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to mentor students
