About this role
Mulilo is on a significant growth trajectory and is looking for a Senior Associate: Corporate Affairs. The incumbent will support the Director of Corporate Affairs and Communication, helping lead the development and execution of Mulilo’s corporate affairs and communication strategy. This role is critical in advancing Mulilo’s reputation, strengthening its voice within the renewable energy sector, and supporting projects across the full value chain.
You will be expected to exercise initiative, lead complex workstreams independently, and liaise with high-level stakeholders across government, media, business, and civil society.
Duties and responsibilities
Strategic Advisory & External Positioning
- Provide strategic support to the Director on government relations, public affairs, media and regulatory developments.
- Support the development and execution of the corporate affairs strategy in alignment with the company’s overall business goals.
- Coordinate government and stakeholder engagement plans, ensuring consistent, proactive communication with relevant ministries, SOEs, municipalities, and industry bodies.
- Draft high-quality board-level reports, policy briefs, and communication materials to support C-suite decision-making.
- Support stakeholder mapping and relationship strategies to build Mulilo’s influence in national, provincial and local energy discourse.
- Monitor the policy landscape and proactively identify risks and opportunities that could affect project execution or company reputation.
- Track and analyse policy and regulatory developments affecting the renewable energy sector, providing actionable insights to internal stakeholders.
- Support community and socio-economic development initiatives, ensuring alignment with ESG commitments and local content obligations.
Government and Stakeholder Relations
- Support building and maintaining positive relationships with government entities, regulators, and industry bodies.
- Identify key events and opportunities for Mulilo to engage with policymakers, advocacy groups, and other external stakeholders.
- Monitor policy and regulatory developments that may impact the business and advise leadership on necessary actions.
- Maintain and grow a national stakeholder database, with tailored engagement plans per geography and issue.
- Develop stakeholder briefing materials, speeches, and presentations for senior executives.
- Coordinate industry memberships, forums, and strategic alliances.
ESG, Sustainability & Social Impact
- Partner with Mulilo Social Impact team to drive compelling storytelling around Mulilo’s sustainability, transformation, and development impact.
- Contribute to the creation of annual reports, ESG disclosures, and sustainability content.
Crisis Management
- Support the company's crisis communication and community engagement efforts, developing rapid response strategies and ensuring clear, consistent messaging.
- Develop crisis management procedures and ensure that key spokespersons in the organisation receive media training to be prepared in high-stakes situations.
- Support the Director in developing rapid response strategies for high-stake community engagements.
Required skills and education background
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Engineering, Finance or related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in corporate affairs, public relations, government relations, or communications.
- Demonstrated success in supporting corporate affairs and communication strategies
- Demonstrated track record in media relations and stakeholder engagement.
- Exceptional writing, editorial and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated understanding of media landscape, public relations trends, and crisis communications.
- Experience managing complex, cross-functional projects and teams in regulated industry.
- Highly competent in the Microsoft 365 package (Teams, Outlook, Sharepoint, Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex issues.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
