Your new role

The Fund is undertaking a multi-year enterprise risk transformation initiative that comprises a range of strategic workstreams designed to strengthen risk management practices, governance, and accountability across all business domains and global operations. 

As we continue to strengthen our global risk framework, we're seeking an experienced risk professional to join our New York-based Compliance & Operational Risk team. 

The Senior Associate, Compliance & Operational Risk, will work on the continued implementation, uplift and embedding of the Fund’s revised risk management framework.  This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in one of the Fund’s most significant risk transformations.  Working closely with the Risk team, you'll help drive the next phase of implementation, refinement and operationalisation across the US business.

Please note, this is a 12-month fixed-term contract position. 

This is a position based on-site at 1251 Avenues of the Americas. 


Key Responsibilities

Risk Management Framework

Support the implementation and embedding of the uplifted risk management framework, including:

  • supporting the Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process;
  • Identifying, sourcing and monitoring Key Risk Indicators to support Risk evaluations;
  • Review of control design and operating effectiveness to support the mitigation of identified risks;
  • contribution to continued improvement of the risk management framework.
  • Manage key data inputs and outputs from GRC.

Management Reporting

  • Input into key governance reporting, including for the AustralianSuper US Board, International Compliance and Risk Council, and other senior forums and committees as required.

Other

  • Support the wider Compliance & Operational Risk team and undertake ad hoc projects as required.

Culture

  • Foster a professional, collaborative and solutions-focused environment within the Compliance & Operational Risk function, supporting high standards of delivery and stakeholder engagement.
  • Promote and role model a sound Risk culture across the Fund.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the US business, supporting strong governance, risk culture and regulatory awareness.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders globally to ensure alignment on risk frameworks and expectations. 
  • This role requires influence and collaboration both within the US and Globally.  The successful candidate will work in partnership with functions across the Fund to ensure compliance is achieved. They will need to be capable of working both autonomously and as an active team contributor.

  • High level of personal integrity as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters.
  • Ability to develop and maintain high quality interpersonal relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong communication/presentation skills and ability to influence. 
  • Self-starter and comfortable working in a small team and a rapidly changing environment. 
  • 5+ years’ experience in risk management, ideally working in the Financial Services, Investment Management and / or Superannuation areas.
  • Experience with (GRC) Governance, risk management and compliance tools such as Archer.
  • Broad ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience and competence.
  • Strong reporting, analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Hold an accreditation in Risk Management from a recognised body or be willing to obtain one after joining AustralianSuper.
  • An understanding of prudential or markets regulations with respect to risk management and investment governance in US/ Australia would be ideal.

Desired:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce or Economics 
  • Regulated industry experience, ideally in financial services
  • Project / delivery management experience


Pay transparency notice

The compensation range for this position is $150,000 to $170,000 (this is based on full-time hours, located in New York City). The pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience and refers to the amount AustralianSuper is willing to pay at the time of posting.
