Senior Assistant Director, Media, Research & Executive Communications
The Corporate Communications Office (CCO) enhances NTU’s reputation by raising awareness of the University’s vision, mission, and achievements in education, research, and innovation.
CCO is home to a world-class team of communicators that has won international, regional and local awards in public relations, marketing and communication.
As Senior Assistant Director, Media, Research & Executive Communications, you will create, manage and edit written content that engages our students, alumni, faculty, staff and stakeholders, to win their confidence, as well as help shape print and digital written content that contributes to raising NTU’s profile.
A major part of this will involve contributing editorially to different aspects of the NTU CCO’s work in an integrated way to raise the quality and maintain a high standard of writing for NTU CCO’s communications and marketing efforts across a range of media, formats and platforms. The goal is to build engaging narratives for NTU as a vibrant and leading global university to improve its standing and reputation internationally among the University’s various target audiences.
As CCO’s Lead Writer, you will need to be versatile and contribute editorially to different aspects of the department’s work in an integrated way, with a strong dual focus in publicising the University’s strengths in science, research and innovation and in managing NTU President’s strategic communication activities such as in conceptualising and producing opinion pieces, speeches and managing media interview opportunities, by working closely with NTU President, members of NTU leadership, subject matter experts and NTU domain owners.
The role will also create and edit written NTU content for print and digital that is compelling and relevant for different target audiences of the University, in addition to developing content that covers news releases for corporate announcements, research news releases and science articles, HEY! and U magazine feature articles.You must be a versatile communicator, passionate storyteller and editorial manager with strong writing and editing experience who can strategically harness written content creation in its various forms to engage with stakeholders.
You should be proficient in tailoring your writing to both print and digital platforms and demonstrate strong editorial packaging abilities as you work collaboratively with CCO colleagues, such as on integrated communications.
You must be able to advise and coach teams of writers engaged in varied forms of writing, from corporate and lifestyle writing to research communication, video scripting and storyboarding for digital platforms, including augmented reality (AR).
We need someone creative who enjoys developing publicity-worthy content and who has the analytical ability to sift through information and zoom in to find the gems and apply a sharp focus to get the job done ahead of time, and at the highest quality.
Key Responsibilities
Lead writing efforts for a wide range of communication and content marketing efforts under CCO to raise and uphold the quality of writing at the office, by editing, writing and advising on communications and content marketing copy to make it compelling to the University’s target audiences.
Lead in conceptualising and producing NTU President’s strategic communications needs, such as writing President’s speeches and opinion pieces, and handling of the corporate messaging during media interviews.
Write, edit and publicise NTU’s science and research communications efforts, such as through NTU’s research and innovation magazine Pushing Frontiers, as well as NTU’s Research Hub and News Hub sites.
To source and develop content that highlights NTU’s strengths in science, engineering and innovation, and adapting the content for various platforms in an integrated way.
Plan and manage the publication of the Pushing Frontiers magazine, as well as manage the external vendors involved.
Edit and write for other CCO communication and content marketing efforts, such as NTU’s HEY! student magazine and U magazine for alumni, social media posts and video scripts, and content marketing materials.
Advise and coach colleagues on writing engaging narratives for CCO’s various communications and content marketing channels.
Work in a cross-disciplinary manner with colleagues in CCO, internal domain owners and relevant stakeholders to develop written copy for various content creation efforts that impactfully engage and captivate NTU’s target audiences.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism or other applicable disciplines. A Master’s degree in Mass Communication will have an added advantage.
At least 12 years’ experience in journalism is preferred, or in editorial writing or in a senior corporate communications role.
Excellent news sense and experience of news and feature writing and editing, and ability to convey messages succinctly, responsibly and accurately.
An exemplary writer with exceptional editing, writing and storytelling skills, as well as editorial packaging abilities and the ability to use multimedia storytelling to advance stories.
Demonstrated ability to tailor communications for a broad range of audiences and on both print and digital platforms.
Wide interest and expertise in different forms of writing, including lifestyle and corporate writing, research communication and video scripting.
Strong aesthetic sense with a good eye for and an appreciation of design as a communication tool.
Motivated to stay abreast of the latest trends in media, storytelling and communication.
