Role: Senior Art Director 

Location: Grand Rapids, MI – Hybrid/Onsite (2-3x/week) 

About the role: 

OLIVER is partnering with BISSELL to build an in-house agency that will drive creative excellence and marketing efficiency across all brand touchpoints. As a Senior Art Director, you will play a leading role in concepting, designing, and overseeing the execution of high-impact creative campaigns that elevate BISSELL’s brand presence and engage consumers across digital, print, social, and video. You will collaborate with copywriters, designers, producers, and marketing stakeholders to develop bold, insight-driven creative work. Your expertise in visual storytelling, brand consistency, and art direction will guide the creative team in delivering innovative and effective content. Additionally, you will explore GenAI tools to enhance workflow efficiencies, unlock new creative possibilities, and optimize content production. What you will be doing: 

  • Lead the creative vision for brand and product campaigns and content, ensuring all designs are compelling, cohesive, and aligned with BISSELL’s brand identity. 
  • Partner closely with copywriters and designers to conceptualize and execute high-impact creative work across digital, print, video, and social channels. 
  • Develop visual concepts, storyboards, and prototypes to bring creative ideas to life. 
  • Provide art direction and feedback to designers, ensuring best-in-class execution and design consistency. 
  • Oversee photo and video shoots, working closely with producers and external vendors to achieve the desired creative outcome. 
  • Act as a brand steward, ensuring all creative assets adhere to brand guidelines and resonate with target audiences. 
  • Stay on top of design trends, emerging technologies, and GenAI tools, integrating them into the creative process where applicable. 
  • Mentor and develop junior designers and art directors, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. 
  • Present creative concepts and campaign ideas to clients, senior stakeholders, and cross-functional teams. 
  • Work with project managers and account teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. 

What you need to be great in this role: 

  • 6+ years of experience in an Art Director or Senior Art Director role in an advertising agency, design studio, or in-house creative team. 
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor creative teams, driving best practices and high standards of execution. 
  • Strong conceptual and visual storytelling skills, with an exceptional portfolio showcasing a range of campaign work. 
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro). 
  • Experience designing for digital, social, print, packaging, and video content. 
  • Strong knowledge of typography, photography, color theory, and branding. 
  • Ability to balance big-picture creative thinking with hands-on design execution. 
  • Experience working with photo and video production teams, directing shoots and post-production efforts. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to sell ideas and defend creative decisions. 
  • Interest in AI-driven design automation and GenAI tools, with a willingness to explore their impact on creative processes. 
  • Experience working on consumer product brands (CPG, homecare, or related industries) is a plus. 
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage complex projects with precision, efficiency, and creativity. 
  • Lead, inspire, and mentor project managers and staff to foster a collaborative, high-performance environment.
  • Manage performance evaluations and development plans.
  • At the time of this posting, the base salary for this position may range from $93,500.00 to $104,500.00. Individual compensation varies based on job related factors, including location, business needs, level of responsibility, experience, and qualifications. The range listed is just one component of OLIVER’s total compensation package.
