CarMax, the way your career should be!

About this job

We’re seeking a creative powerhouse with top-tier video, motion, and design skills—someone who tells compelling visual stories and brings bold, social-first content to life. A portfolio demonstrating current examples of relatable organic social-first video and static content for brands is required. As the Senior Art Director and Content Creator, you will drive the creative vision and execution of compelling content that elevates our brand and engages digital audiences in both paid and organic channels. This role blends native storytelling and design expertise to produce high-quality video and static content for our brand and acquisition teams. It is ideal for a creative thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can pivot quickly, and brings a strong blend of conceptual and hands-on content creation skills. Reporting to the Associate Creative Director on the Social team, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, ensuring that creative executions align with strategic objectives, channel goals, and brand best practices.

What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

· Conceptualize, plan, and produce original high-quality content (video, motion, graphic, photo) for all social media platforms to support CarMax acquisition and brand channels.

· Proactively contribute ideas (brainstorms, inspiration gathering, identifying appropriate trends, channel-specific approaches, and ways to bring content to life for our brand). Integrate inspiration into original work that fits brand guidelines and platform needs.

· Recognize opportunities to evolve CarMax's brand and ad performance through social content and articulate rationale to peers, legal, strategy, and channel stakeholders to align on objectives and drive results.

· Cultivate strong, strategic relationships across teams.

· Think critically to balance creativity and execution, making informed decisions independently while managing tight timelines and navigating ambiguity.

· Lead multiple projects independently, effectively managing timelines, deliverables, and team expectations with minimal oversight.

· Critically evaluate high-level strategic decisions to suggest improvements or enhance the creative direction

· Proactively embrace change, adjusting quickly to evolving requirements and managing transitions with minimal disruption.

Qualifications and Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Digital Media, Advertising, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in content creation and art direction.

· 3+ years of experience in art direction, with hands-on expertise in producing both video and static content tailored to needs of social and programmatic platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

· A strong portfolio showcasing social-first video production, motion design, and static content creation, alongside a proven track record in native and brand storytelling and providing creative leadership across diverse projects.

· Advanced proficiency in creative tools (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects) and clear understanding of opportunities and restrictions of the tech, asset types, and AI/brand best practices.

· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate and present concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

· Keen attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality, customer-centric work.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Upon an applicant's request, CarMax will consider reasonable accommodation to complete the CarMax Job Application.
