Senior Applications Engineer – Communications Cable


About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to serve as a technical expert supporting customers, sales teams, and product development within the low-voltage communications cabling industry.

In this highly visible role, you will help customers select, design, and deploy communications cable solutions, while working closely with engineering, product management, and sales teams to bring new products to market.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving real-world technical challenges, working directly with customers, and influencing product innovation.


What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, providing guidance on product selection, system design, installation practices, and troubleshooting.
  • Partner with engineering and product management teams to support new product development from concept through product launch.
  • Support sales teams and key customer engagements by providing technical expertise during the sales process.
  • Develop product application guidelines, technical documentation, and best practices for communications cable products.
  • Deliver technical training to customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with field troubleshooting and resolution of product performance issues, working with plant and R&D teams.
  • Represent the company at industry trade shows and technical events.
  • Stay current on industry standards, emerging technologies, and installation best practices.
  • Create product demonstrations, samples, and mock-ups to support application development and customer education.

What You Bring

  • Strong technical understanding of communications cable specifications, transmission characteristics, testing methods, and system applications.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to customers, installers, and sales teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in field or application environments.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical training or presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25–50% for customer visits, plant collaboration, and industry events.

Education & Experience

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent technical experience in the wire and cable industry.
  • 5–8 years of experience in communications cable systems, applications engineering, field services, installation, or testing environments.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience using cable testing and troubleshooting equipment relevant to communications cable products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BICSI certification or other ICT industry credentials.
