Job DescriptionRESPEC is seeking an experienced Senior Application Developer to support a State of Utah Tax Commission technology team. This is an opportunity to apply deep GenTax expertise on high-impact public-sector systems that support essential tax and motor-vehicle services.
As a Senior Application Developer, you will design, enhance, and maintain solutions within the GenTax COTS platform. Your work will directly support applications across Motor Vehicle Title and Registration, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Tax Processing, and Property Tax. You will partner with business and technical stakeholders to turn operational needs into reliable, scalable technical solutions while helping guide development quality across the team.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and optimize GenTax applications using C#, SQL, and Visual Studio. Create advanced SQL queries and develop or enhance SOAP and RESTful API services that enable secure, effective integration across business systems.
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to gather functional requirements, conduct system analysis, map workflows and processes, and translate business needs into clear technical specifications and implementation plans.
- Perform code reviews, uphold development standards and best practices, troubleshoot production issues involving performance, functionality, and integrations, and proactively recommend improvements. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to developers across skill levels while contributing ideas informed by current technologies and industry practices.
Required Technical Experience
- 5+ years of GenTax development experience: Candidates must have at least five years of experience designing and developing solutions within the GenTax system, including strong hands-on proficiency with SQL and C# in Visual Studio.
- API development experience: Demonstrated ability to consume, update, and create API services using both SOAP and RESTful architectures.
- Business and systems analysis experience: Strong background gathering functional requirements and converting them into technical specifications through system analysis, workflow design, and process design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Tax Commission business processes within the GenTax environment is strongly preferred. Candidates with experience implementing data-conversion processes during software version upgrades will stand out.
- The ideal candidate brings strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills; can work independently while partnering effectively with a technical team; and is comfortable mentoring team members at different experience levels. Prior IT Architect experience is a plus.

Work Model
Work arrangement: The assignment is based at the Salt Lake City, Utah and is expected to require 40 hours per week.
Their is a potential 95% remote / 5% on-site arrangement with weekly on-site attendance at the clients discretion.
Applicants should be prepared to support the Salt Lake City work location and should confirm their ability to meet the client’s final hybrid or telework requirements.
