Position Summary:

Samsung Research America Digital Health Team is looking for an outstanding Ph.D.-level Senior AI Research Engineer with solid ML/AI technology background and digital health-related research project experiences in digital biomarker, physiological signal process and multi-modality mobile sensing development. You need to have a strong track-record of success in academic and/or industrial settings. You will play a key role in delivering innovation in digital health domain, create technologies and intellectual properties, deploy and validate novel technologies, and transfer the mature outcomes to production and scientific publications in top-tier computing venues. We expect candidates who have solid data analytics skills and project experiences in areas such as mobile health systems and wearable computing.

You will be a core part of a passionate team charged with developing, incubating, and launching a portfolio of digital health product concepts that will disrupt the healthcare paradigm. By leveraging smart phones, wearables, embedded devices and the IoT in the health/wellness domain, your work will significantly benefit real-world patients, seniors, physicians and care givers. Position Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the project team to contribute to data analysis, performance evaluation, and other milestone-related tasks.
  • Lead the development of innovative algorithms and ideas based on noisy signals from sensors, including light, audio, physiological, and inertial data collected in both lab and field settings.
  • Train novel health foundation models from scratch and fine-tune existing models to accelerate the development of new health and wellness offerings for Samsung wearables.
  • Design and execute pilot studies, create proof-of-concept prototypes, and develop demos using mobile sensors.
  • Generate patents and publish scientific research in top-tier journals and conferences.

Required Skills

  • PhD. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biophysics, Mathematics, Health Sciences, or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in Signal Processing, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and their applications to large-scale time-series data.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: Python, Java, Android, MATLAB, or R.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively. Comfortable working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • First-author publications in top-tier computing venues.

Special Attributes (Preferred)

  • Ability to turn analyzed data into actionable insights or clear visualizations.
  • Experience in clinical study design, IRB development, and conducting in-lab or in-the-wild data collection studies.
  • Product development and prototyping experience to implement and validate solutions.
  • Good understanding of human physiology and non-invasive sensors for measuring digital biomarkers in health and behavior monitoring.
  • Experience developing healthcare algorithms using EMR/EHR and wearable sensor data.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance.

The base pay range for roles at this level is listed below, but may be higher or lower in other states due to geographic differentials in the labor market. Within the base pay range, individual rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education and training. This is part of our comprehensive compensation package with annual bonus eligibility and generous benefits to help you live life well.
