Job Title/Position: Senior Accounting Manager

  • Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
  • Schedule: Full-time Monday – Friday 40 hours per week. Evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Pay Rate: $85,000 – $95,000

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for assisting the Chief Financial Officer with meeting the Accounting and Finance needs of Discovery World. The Senior Accounting Manager will oversee the Senior Accountant while performing daily accounting activities in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures for a non-profit entity. The ideal candidate will be able responsible for Accounts Receivable, Account Reconciliations, Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Audit, and internal department communication. The Senior Non-Profit Accounting Manager will also be responsible for collaborating with the Chief Financial Officer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.


  • Prepares account reconciliations and related statements to ensure proper recording of journal entries, accounts receivable and cash management. Reviews accounts payable.
  • Prepares schedule of grant income and related expenses for restricted grants and programs.
  • Reviews payroll, payroll journal entries, accruals and transfers related to other withholdings.
  • Maintains general ledger by verifying, allocating and posting transactions.
  • Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
  • Prepares timely and accurate financial reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Manage monthly closing schedule.
  • Reviews and understands ticketing process in order to ensure proper recording of revenue, receivables, and prepaids.
  • Manages event revenue including unearned revenue, contract management, and management with external partners.
  • Reviews fixed assets for proper treatment, ensures accuracy of monthly depreciation entries.
  • Supervise filing system and make recommendations as needed
  • Provides oversight to monthly sales tax return preparation, census reports and other requested data from external parties.
  • Provides data and analysis to support the budgeting process on both a monthly and annual basis.
  • Analyze and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of department operation.
  • Assist with the recommendations and implementation of processes and systems.
  • Maintains schedules for external auditors, including prepaid accounts, pledge discounts and other reports.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Serves as the point of contact for the external auditors.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements, filing reports, advising management on needed actions.
  • Manage the goals and day-to-day responsibilities of the Senior Accountant.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Demonstrate a commitment to and passion for Discovery World's educational mission.
  • Minimum education requirements include a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related fields, CPA preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in accounting, or AP.
  • Sage Intacct experience a plus.
  • Ability to Multitask.
