Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant supports the accounting operations of Impact Services in a complex nonprofit environment that includes government, foundation, and corporate funding, as well as real estate related activities. This role plays an important role in the month-end close process, financial reporting, and grant accounting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and donor restrictions. The Senior Accountant works closely with FP&A to support accurate and timely financial information for internal reporting and analysis. This is a full-time position.
Essential Accountabilities:
- Develops and maintains an understanding of the accounting operations. Recommending and enforcing the internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Assists with annual budget preparation and support.
- Ensures accuracy of programmatic salary and fringe allocations.
- Prepares day-to-day and month-end close entries including revenue, payroll, prepaid expenses, unbilled accounts receivable, and accrued liabilities.
- Monitors program revenue ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Creates and reviews general ledger reports to ensure accuracy of general ledger activity.
- Prepares reconciliations for necessary balance sheet accounts, general ledger accounts, and budget to actual variance analysis.
- Assists with the month-end and year-end closing process.
- Assists external auditors and tax accountants at year-end with preparing schedules, providing explanations of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary data.
- Assists in the preparation of the year-end 1099 submissions.
- Recommends, designs, and implements any necessary department controls and procedures.
- Partners with FP&A to support budget to actual analysis, variance explanations, and management reporting.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting.
- Minimum 5-7 years progressive accounting experience.
Qualifications:
- Combination of profit and non-profit experience with a strong understanding of Accounting Principles and knowledge of GAAP.
- Strong systems background using financial software packages.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
