Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Assistant Controllers with the full month-end close process for a portfolio of residential and commercial properties. This position requires a strong working knowledge of accounting principles, real estate/property management accounting practices, and financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will independently manage reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and financial reporting, while also providing guidance and support across accounting operations and cross-functional teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead daily bank reconciliations for all residential and commercial properties.
  • Perform monthly credit card reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Download, review, and maintain bank and loan statements.
  • Execute accurate and timely month-end close processes, including preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain and update depreciation schedules and accrual spreadsheets.
  • Post deposits, refunds, and intercompany transfers accurately and timely.
  • Ensure proper general ledger coding and account accuracy for all receipts and expenditures.
  • Prepare and process annual 1099 filings.
  • Assist Assistant Controllers with quarterly inventory counts at properties.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial statement packages for ownership and leadership review.
  • Review and process reclassifications submitted by property managers.
  • Calculate and post monthly management fees.
  • Process corporate bill-backs to properties across the portfolio.
  • Support internal and external audit activities, including payables and receivables documentation.
  • Collaborate with property management and corporate teams to resolve accounting issues.
  • Provide guidance and informal mentoring to junior accounting staff, as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business discipline.
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial experience.
  • Experience in real estate or property management accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating as part of a team.
  • Proven time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical ability.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with a professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced preferred), Word, QuickBooks, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with ResMan, Yardi Elevate, and AvidXchange highly desirable.

Skills Required
