POSITION PURPOSE

This position reports into the Assistant Controller, managing various accounting functions including general ledger maintenance and reconciliations, assisting in month end financial closing with associated analysis and reporting. The position involves monitoring inventory activity, maintaining commission files and reconciliations for third party vendors, overseeing balances in certain key provision accounts, and other responsibilities as needed.

This position evaluates and makes improvements to daily accounting processes while ensuring that compliance standards are met with all financial data and follows the Company’s accounting policies.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees calculating, posting, and verification of financial data for use in maintaining accounting records.
  • Day-to-day requirements including but not limited to:
    1. Work alongside supply chain on inventory cycle counting
    2. Monitor inventory movement alongside cost accounting team 
    3. Works with business partners to review and analyze inventory reserves and maintain accurate records of inventory transactions
    4. Work with business partners on periodic inventory count procedures
    5. Develop and maintain inventory control systems
    6. Maintain commission liability files and perform research as needed on inquiries from sales team
    7. Oversee balance movements in accruals and provisions accounts, including the general reserve and provisions for settlements.
  • Month End Close activities:
    1. Reviews with management and posts inventory reserve entries
    2. Work with AP and Production to review and reconcile goods in transit
    3. Analyze freight expense for monthly accrual
    4. Process commission payment file to pay third party vendors based on relevant schedule
  • Maintains balance sheet account reconciliations monthly including:
    1. Inventory & Reserves
    2. Accruals and Provisions
    3. Commission Liability
  • Ensuring assigned balance sheet accounts are in accordance with IFRS guidelines and/or the Company Accounting Manual. 
  • Supports Accounting team in providing documentation for annual internal and external audits.
  • Supports Assistant Controller with special projects and other reporting requirements as needed.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions. 

 

COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS (knowledge, skills, and abilities)

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.   Communicates with co-workers, management, and business partners in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software as well as other accounting software programs.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with team members
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; CPA required.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in g/l accounting, including experience with monthly closing cycles. Manufacturing accounting a plus.
  • Experience with Syteline and SAP ERP systems preferred.
