About Lumafield:

Lumafield was founded in 2019 to upgrade manufacturing.

We are engineers with deep experience across the product development cycle, from initial ideas to shipping hardware, across industries and specializations, who became frustrated by the cost and complexity of modern manufacturing. So we decided to upgrade it.

Engineers make million-dollar decisions every day, and they need tools that give them the greatest possible insight into their products. By offering unprecedented visibility into products, as well as AI-driven tools that highlight problems and generate quantitative data, Lumafield promises to revolutionize the way complex products are created, manufactured, and used across industries. We started with industrial CT scanning, which for us was the most valuable but underutilized tool in the manufacturing toolbox, enabling us to rapidly inspect essential components non-destructively.

We rebuilt the whole system, from X-ray capture, to computer vision analysis, to web-based collaboration, to the entire business model, making the most advanced manufacturing tech more accessible to every industry. Our company, like our platform, is designed for upgrades. We’re building for greater intelligence, autonomy, and speed. For deeper vision, operational excellence, and powerful insights. And then we'll upgrade it all again.

Lumafield is headquartered in Cambridge, MA, and has an office in San Francisco, CA.

About the role:

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in strengthening Lumafield’s accounting operations, owning complex reconciliations, contributing to inventory and cost-accounting frameworks, and driving an efficient, well-documented month-end close.

This role combines hands-on execution with meaningful ownership, review responsibilities, and cross-functional partnership. The right candidate thrives in a growing environment, builds scalable workflows, and proactively identifies improvements that strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.

What you'll do:

  • Month-End Close
  • Own a portfolio of complex balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and strong documentation.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly flux analysis for key accounts, document and communicate insights to the team.
  • Drive timely completion of close tasks through coordination, documentation, and continuous refinement of close processes.
  • Support accruals, amortization schedules, revenue and cost analyses, and other recurring close entries.
  • Ensure strong internal controls across month-end workflows and proactively identify control gaps or areas for enhancement.
  • Own various month end allocations, and streamline foundational setup of inputs to ensure accurate and efficient allocations.
  • Inventory & Cost Accounting
  • Support the development of scalable inventory workflows, including tracking, valuation, standard costing, and monthly close processes.
  • Prepare and review detailed inventory reconciliations across systems, identifying discrepancies and driving resolution.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams to ensure accurate costing and timely recognition of material movements.
  • Contribute to ongoing refinement of cost models, manufacturing overhead allocations, and COGS analytics.
  • Operational Accounting & Review
  • Maintain key operational processes such as purchase policy compliance and payroll support.
  • Manage key accounting system updates on a daily and weekly basis, including new hire onboarding, terminations, approval matrix changes, and cost-center updates.
  • Provide support for review over expenses, AP, and cash coding, provide coaching and guidance to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Support revenue recognition, AR processes, and other operational accounting tasks as needed.
  • Assist in preparing or reviewing operational metrics and reconciliations that support financial reporting.
  • Audit & Compliance
  • Prepare detailed audit schedules and act as a key point of contact for external auditors.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of policies and documentation aligned with GAAP and internal control requirements.
  • Assist with research on new transactions, policies, and accounting treatments as the business scales.
  • Process Improvement & Systems
  • Document end-to-end processes with a focus on scalability, clarity, and ownership.
  • Identify, propose, and help implement improvements to reduce manual work, shorten close timelines, and strengthen cross-functional workflows.
  • Act as an internal systems resource, helping troubleshoot issues, maintain documentation, and support integrations with NetSuite and related tools.
  • Assist with the implementation, testing, and rollout of new accounting close tools, ERP enhancements, and automated workflows.

About you:

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple complex tasks at once.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning end-to-end processes without oversight.
  • A strong communicator who builds trust across teams and brings structure to ambiguous workflows.
  • Curious, proactive, and excited to help build and scale accounting systems and processes in a growing organization.
  • Experienced in identifying discrepancies, digging into large data sets, and improving accuracy through root-cause analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA license or active CPA path preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with ERP systems and accounting workflows; skilled at understanding how data flows between systems, ensuring accurate integrations, and troubleshooting sync issues (NetSuite strongly preferred).
  • 3–5+ years of relevant experience in public accounting, operational accounting, cost accounting, or a combination.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large data sets, multi-system reconciliations, and complex workflows.
  • Prior audit experience or experience preparing audit-ready schedules preferred.
  • Ability to create new accounting processes from scratch and document them clearly, including building structured, audit-ready workpapers.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, build documentation, and identify system inefficiencies.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to manage and own processes end-to-end.
