We’re seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant with proven experience in the telecommunications and voice services industry. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of telecom regulations, industry-specific tax laws, and prior exposure to controller-level responsibilities. This role plays a key part in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and strategic insights that support the company’s growth and adherence to complex industry requirements.

As we continue expanding across diverse markets and introducing complex products & services, maintaining precise financial control and regulatory compliance for each legal entity in our region is essential to sustaining our growth and credibility, adhering to complex telecom and voice industry regulations, and staying compliant with evolving tax and reporting laws across multiple jurisdictions.This role will bridge the gap between local compliance requirements and global corporate standards and support scalability and audit readiness as we continue to expand our operations.

This position reports to the Regional Head of Finance – North America who is based in Chicago.

The Regional Senior Accountant is a key member of the North America Finance team, responsible for assisting the North America Head of Finance in implementing strong accounting internal control processes, ensuring financial reporting accuracy and integrity, maintaining compliance with local/state/federal/global regulations and accounting principles (US GAAP and IFRS), and providing valuable accounting input and strategic insights for senior management’s decision-making.

The Regional Senior Accountant will ensure books are closed accurately and in a timely manner (including improving close cycles). Thus, this position will collaborate and work closely with our Financial Shared Services Center and corporate/HQ partners on the pre-close due diligence, preliminary checks and balances, control, accurate execution and completion of month-end processes, including journal entries and reconciliations of monthly accounts for all North American entities (US and Canada).

The Regional Senior Accountant will be a functional subject matter expert assisting and representing the regional Finance team on regional and corporate cross-functional projects. In this role, the Regional Senior Accountant will research complex accounting and reporting issues and collaborate with business partners to collect relevant information. The goal in this role is to support and help optimize the financial reporting and technical accounting functional workstream. The Regional Senior Accountant will communicate and coordinate, as needed, with internal & external stakeholders, including auditors and tax compliance vendors. 

What you'll do:

  • You’re the key point of contact for leaders and business partners on advanced accounting topics and serve as a Controller of accounting principles for the North America region.

  • You lead month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • You maintain the general ledger, reconcile key accounts, and oversee revenue recognition in compliance with telecom regulations.

  • You prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.

  • You ensure compliance with telecom-specific tax regulations, including FUSF, excise, and state/local telecom taxes.

  • You coordinate audits (financial, regulatory, and tax) and support documentation requests.

  • You develop and maintain internal controls aligned with US GAAP and telecom reporting requirements.

  • You ensure accurate reconciliation of statutory financial statements with the group’s IFRS audited reports.

  • You partner with other regional Finance team members to refine accounting processes and reporting structures.

  • You collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Legal, and Regulatory teams on compliance initiatives.

  • You work closely with other finance support teams including the Shared Services Center, Revenue Assurance, Purchase to Pay, Cost Assurance, and Treasury.

  • You participate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling with a focus on telecom service profitability.

  • You manage relationships with external tax accountants; ensuring taxes are filed and all escrows are funded in a timely fashion.

  • You support the North America Head of Finance in the process of analysis and approval of annual FS, tax returns, and other financial and compliance reports.

  • You resolve disputes and inquiries from other departments.

  • You participate in major department projects and participate in cross-functional teams that help improve quality, processes, and initiatives.

  • You assist in internal and external audits as needed.

  • You assist with annual audit preparations and tax provisions.

  • You investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.

What makes you a strong fit

  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA in Accounting required; CPA or equivalent certification a strong plus.

  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in the telecom or voice industry.

  • Strong understanding of telecom regulatory frameworks (FCC, CRTC, etc.) & related taxation laws.

  • Prior controller or assistant controller experience or exposure to full-cycle accounting leadership.

  • Advanced knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS.

  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics 365) and strong Excel skills.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple shifting priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

  • Experience with telecom billing systems and revenue recognition (ASC 606).

  • Knowledge of state and federal telecom reporting (Form 499, 477, etc.).

  • Experience working in a mid-size or high-growth tech/communications company.

  • Ability to work with little to no supervision but also to work collaboratively with others when required.

  • Naturally comfortable taking charge and action oriented.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
