SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant – Fixed Assets will have responsibility for the WRBP Roofing & Stone divisions fixed asset accounting functions. This role includes maintaining the fixed assets subledger, ensuring accurate tracking of acquisitions, capitalization, depreciation, disposal, transfers, and impairments of the assets and supporting financial reporting audits. This role also includes creating and maintaining capital projects in SAP, ensuring proper tracking and accounting for project related expenditures. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a keen eye for details, and experience in fixed assets accounting this position has contact with all levels of management as well as independent auditors.    

ACCOUNTING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and manage capital investment projects in SAP.
  • Ensure projects are properly structured, assigned to the correct cost center/internal order, and aligned with the internal policies.
  • Monitoring budgets and spending against open projects.
  • Track and Monitor AUC projects to ensure timely and accurate capitalization.
  • Collaborate with the project managers, procurement, and finance to gather necessary documentation and close out projects.
  • Review assets under construction (AUC) balances monthly to ensure compliance with accounting policies.
  • Apply appropriate accounting capitalization rules in accordance with company policy and U.S GAAP.
  • Manage the fixed assets subledger, ensuring all additions, disposals, transfers, and adjustments are recorded.
  • Review useful lives and depreciation methods.
  • Ensure timely and accurate capitalization of fixed assets and calculation of depreciation in accordance with Westlake policy and U.S. GAAP.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for all fixed asset accounts and any other accounts assigned.
  • Prepare fixed asset schedules, rollforwards and supporting documents for financial reporting and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies related to fixed assets.
  • Provide support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responding auditor queries.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of fixed asset accounting.
  • Prepare fixed asset & lease accounting reporting and journal entries as required.
  • Preparation of supporting schedules for Roofing & Stone monthly/quarterly/annual financial reporting packs as needed.  
  • Prepare supporting SEC data and other regulatory reporting and filing data as necessary.
  • Prepare supporting data/schedules for the annual budget in coordination with Corporate Planning & Budgeting group as needed. 
  • Adhere to internal controls in the accounting and reporting areas. Enforce SOX process control compliance.
  • Responsible for keeping current with technical accounting pronouncements and trends, analyzing their impact on the Company, and application of new accounting pronouncements in accordance with Westlake policy and as directed by the Manager of General Accounting.

  • Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
  • Any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors in Accounting with 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience in both public accounting and the private sector is required, preferably with a manufacturing background.  
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Previous experience with financial reporting & analysis, budgeting and general accounting is required. 
  • Proficiency in ERP system preferably SAP, is critical to the position.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and Fixed Asset accounting principles. 
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee occasionally lifts and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
