Summary

JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for complex, financial accounting functions in compliance with applicable policies, contract requirements, regulations, and laws. This position broadly interprets principles, theories, and concepts in the financial area with a working knowledge of related functional areas, using concepts and policies to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES • Responsible for the oversight, execution and monitoring of financial transactions, processes, and systems. • Provide financial statement analysis including various general ledger account reconciliations. • Prepare financial statement reporting, including non-standard and/or ad hoc, for both internal and external audiences. • Research, analyze, and correct irregularities and reconciling items in system output results and/or reconciliations. • Responsible for monthly and year-end close related activities. • Utilize financial systems to obtain and analyze complex financial information. • Maintain and track all capital acquisitions and depreciation accounts. • Develop and implement solutions to complex accounting problems by in-depth evaluation and analysis. • Provide technical input in the formulation and execution of financial objectives. • Develop, plan, and implement policies, techniques, and methods in accordance with ESET policies, accepted business practices, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. • Develop, evaluate, and implement work methods and transaction documentation for efficiencies, making recommendations for improvements. • Participate in end user acceptance testing of new system functionality prior to implementation. • Evaluates and decides accounting treatment for capital assets. • Provide analytical budgeting and forecasting support for four technology groups, Information Technology, ERP, Business Applications, and Project Management Office. • Provide back-up supervisory support and coordination for month end, quarter end, and year end closes. • Accounting reconciliations for all ESET bank accounts. • Plan and coordinate the work of colleagues in accordance with superior's instructions, be responsible for the performance of the tasks entrusted to it in accordance with established procedures and processes and prioritize tasks of colleagues in order to meet established objectives and achieve required results. KEY TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and QUALIFICATIONS• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field and a minimum of 4 years of related professional-level experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in interpreting and applying financial policies and procedures including the use of generally accepted financial principles and methodologies. • Complete knowledge of and experience in performing financial functions including: preparation and posting of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement analysis, financial report preparation and variance analysis. • Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of complex financial spreadsheets and databases containing advanced functions and significant experience in utilizing commercial and/or institutional financial tools. • Experience applying skills to independently research, interpret, analyze, compile, and present data and information. • Demonstrated ability to independently devise new approaches, perform assignments, and make decisions with high consequence of error with limited direction from management. • Experience in advanced decision making, problem-solving and analytical skills to independently solve complex issues requiring mature judgment, discretion, and tact. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively prepare and deliver financial compliance briefings, documentation, reports, and provide expert financial advice to Laboratory personnel, and/or other external organizations and agencies. • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to explain, negotiate, persuade, and build consensus among diverse stakeholders. • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with all levels of personnel, both internal and external to the Laboratory. COMPETENCIES• Proven ability to identify and drive process and system improvements. • Strong analytical and technical skills are required including advanced Excel spreadsheet skills. • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing to all levels within the organization. • Detail-oriented, analytical thinker who also understands the big picture and can identify and proactively act on issues before they become problems. • Ability to work interdepartmentally towards a common goal. • Strong organization skills with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines or as a team member.
