Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Accountant who wants to expand their career in both the technical and operation sides of an accounting function and is interested in the opportunity to work through complex

topics such as revenue recognition, lease and debt accounting, and much more.


This individual will play a critical role in supporting Highland’s rapid growth as we onboard new customer contracts and financing arrangements while helping implement systems and processes necessary to scale.


This individual will also be heavily involved in our internal and external financial reporting, month-end close activities, and our efforts to continuously improve processes and internal controls.


Key Responsibilities:

Revenue Recognition and Customer Billings

  • Review customer contracts and perform contract analyses to ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and 842.
  • Build complex revenue models and billing schedules and ensure all revenue is accurately recorded on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of customer records within our ERP system.
  • Manage customer billing schedules to ensure all invoices are billed accurately and timely
  • Assist with collection efforts and the ongoing analysis of our AR subledger
  • Prepare all related balance sheet reconciliations, including deferred revenue, AR, and accrued revenue.
  • Work directly with our finance colleagues to ensure revenue is being properly forecasted.

Lease and Debt Financing

  • Analyze vehicle lease and debt financing agreements to determine and document the proper accounting treatment.
  • Build and maintain financing schedules and ensure the related payments, interest, lease expense and amortization, current vs long term liabilities, etc. are all accurately recorded on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare all related balance sheet reconciliations
  • Work directly with our finance colleagues to ensure covenant compliance, including assisting with the preparation of financial reports and monitoring and analyzing our financial performance.

Financial Reporting

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports for the executive team as well as quarterly financial statements.
  • Assist with the compilation of our annual audited financial statements, with a heavy emphasis on the preparation of revenue, lease, and debt disclosures.
  • Work directly with our external auditors in providing supporting documentation and answering questions and inquires in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; a Master’s degree would be a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in industry and/or with a large public accounting firm
  • Experience with complex accounting topics, including revenue recognition and lease accounting is highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Experience working with an ERP system is preferred; NetSuite experience is a major bonus
  • Capable of working cross-functionally and collaborating with all areas of the business
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to operate effectively and thrive in an agile, fast-moving, and sometimes ambiguous environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is a must
