Senior Accountant – Job Requisition
Position Summary: The Senior Accountant will support the accounting operations of a managed services organization providing financial and accounting services to a growing personal injury law firm. This role will be responsible for key month-end close activities, account reconciliations, IOLTA reconciliations, and financial reporting support. 

The Senior Accountant will also play an important role in supporting the Accounting Department's increased workload associated with recent and future acquisitions.

This position will work closely with Accounting Managers and other members of the accounting team to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and properly supported. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional who can independently manage multiple accounting processes, identify discrepancies, research issues, and work effectively in a fast-paced, growing organization.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Month-End Close
    • Perform assigned month-end close activities and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
    • Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries.
    • Perform account analysis and investigate unusual or unexpected activity.
    • Assist with accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany activity, and other close-related activities.
    • Assist with preparation and review of monthly financial statements and management reporting.
    • Identify and resolve accounting issues in a timely manner.
  • Account Reconciliations
    • Prepare and maintain monthly bank account and balance sheet reconciliations and investigate outstanding or unusual items
    • Research and resolve reconciling items and ensure aged items are appropriately addressed.
    • Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for reconciliations and journal entries.
    • Assist with reconciliations of other high-volume or complex general ledger accounts.
  • IOLTA / Legal Accounting
    • Prepare and review IOLTA account reconciliations.
    • Reconcile IOLTA activity to supporting case-level and/or settlement-related records.
    • Research discrepancies between bank activity, accounting records, and case management systems.
    • Assist with ensuring client-related funds are properly recorded and reconciled.
    • Work with Accounting and Operations teams to resolve discrepancies and improve IOLTA-related processes.
  • Acquisitions & Growth
    • Assist with accounting integration activities related to newly acquired law firms/businesses.
    • Support the onboarding of accounting data, bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and financial processes associated with acquisitions.
    • Assist with opening balance sheet reviews and reconciliations for acquired entities.
    • Support accounting integration for future acquisitions as the organization continues to grow.
    • Help identify process improvements and standardization opportunities across newly integrated operations.
  • AI & Technology / Process Automation
    • Leverage AI platforms and emerging technologies to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of accounting processes.
    • Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to streamline reconciliations, data analysis, reporting, account research, and other recurring accounting activities.
    • Utilize AI tools to analyze large datasets, identify trends or anomalies, assist with research, and improve the preparation and review of accounting information.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in accounting, finance, or economics.
  • CPA or CPA candidate a plus.
  • 2 to 4 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems.
  • Strong skills in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc).
  • Self-starter and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task.
  • Attention to detail, good organizational skills, and ability to perform efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced dynamic environment
