Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant with a strong background in retail inventory and sales tax accounting to join our finance team. This role is responsible for accurate financial reporting, inventory valuation, sales tax compliance, and supporting month-end close processes in a fast-paced, multi-unit retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead inventory accounting processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
- Prepare and analyze inventory reports, identifying trends and variances.
- Perform accrual-based P&L reconciliations and monthly fluctuation analyses.
- Collaborate with operations and finance teams to align cost accounting and inventory valuation practices.
- Manage sales tax filings and ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Reconcile sales tax accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Support monthly and annual close processes with timely and accurate reporting.
- Provide documentation for internal and external audits.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
- Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures.
- Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on inventory, retail operations, and sales tax compliance.
- Experience in multi-unit retail environments ($100M+ revenue preferred).
- Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems; Mi9 experience is a plus.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and sales tax regulations.
- High integrity, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
- CPA or CPA track preferred.
