Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant prepares, maintains and analyzes various financial documents, including the general ledger and financial statements.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares general ledger
- Reconciles accounts
- Prepares depreciation and prepaid insurance schedules
- Prepares monthly and annual financial statements
- Analyzes fluctuations in account balances
- Prepares audit worksheets
- Proficiency in operation of personal computer with WINDOWS operating system, and 10-key calculator by touch
- Proficiency in data entry and use of spreadsheet programs (e.g. EXCEL)
- Word processing experience, or ability to demonstrate learning curve resulting in skills adequate for this position within 3 months of hire
- Good organizational skills; ability to organize computer and manual files
- Good alpha numeric filing skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Writing, clerical and math skills sufficient for performance of job duties

Senior Accountant Competencies and Performance Expectations
All Senior Accountants are expected to:
- Prepare journal entries and post to the general ledger
- Review and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, adjust and resolve any discrepancies
- Prepare and analyze the monthly depreciation and prepaid insurance schedules
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and review for accuracy
- Assist in the identification and analysis of significant fluctuations in account balances
- Prepare audit worksheets and provide information for external auditors as requested
- Perform special projects as assigned
- Work as a team member in performing duties, responsibilities and assignments
- Adhere to BHS Policy and Procedures and professional standards of conduct
Prerequisite Qualifications
Following are the qualifications required to perform the essential functions of this position. Qualifications may be subject to modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting with (1) year of related work experience or A.A. degree or business school graduate plus (2) years of related work experience or high school graduate with (6) years of related work experience.
Knowledge of accounting and auditing principals, practices and procedures, and financial record keeping methods.
Able to stand, stoop, bend, squat and reach for purpose of performing job duties such as handling materials stocked on shelves, filing, lifting, and inspecting and servicing vehicles. Routinely lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally up to seventy pounds; is expected to ask for assistance and use a dolly or cart for any heavy items. Vision, hearing, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for performance of job duties. Duties may require occasional use of stool or small ladder.

Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting plus one year of related work experience, or an associate degree/business school qualification plus two years of related experience, or a high school diploma plus six years of related experience.
- Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, practices, procedures, and financial recordkeeping methods.
- Proficiency using Windows, spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel, data entry, and a 10-key calculator.
- Word processing experience, or ability to develop adequate word-processing skills within three months of hire.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, filing, clerical, mathematical, and detail-oriented skills.
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend, squat, reach, file, handle materials, and lift up to 25 pounds routinely and 70 pounds occasionally.
- Class C California driver's license, personal vehicle with liability insurance, or bilingual ability, if applicable to the assignment.
