Kemper, a publicly-traded, multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company, seeks a talented and motivated individual to join our Corporate Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago.
The Senior Accountant is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge of ledgers, consolidation, and SEC/GAAP/statutory financial reporting within the P&C segment of an insurance company. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek an analytical and detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual P&C accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting.
Position Responsibilities:
Prepare and review monthly journal entries
Prepare and/or review monthly account reconciliations
Consolidate company operating information for internal and external financial reporting
Work with internal and external auditors and provide necessary support
Prepare analytical schedules, analyze variances, and provide support for internal requests
Actively identify, lead, manage, and complete process improvement projects
Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements
Prepare and/or review quarterly statutory-basis financial statements
Additional responsibilities, as assigned
Position Requirements:
BA/BS degree in Accounting
3-5 years of industry or public accounting experience.
CPA or CPA candidate preferred
Familiarity with US GAAP, familiarity with statutory accounting principles is a plus
Experience navigating a large ERP environment
Proficiency in MS Office products - intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Excel
Experience in Workday and Blackline a strong plus
Ability to identify, analyze and solve accounting issues.
Effective writing skills and strong attention to detail required.
Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
Progressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutions.
Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staff.
The range for this position is $70,000 to $117,000. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors.
