PURPOSE
According to the prescribed policies and procedures of the organization including all applicable federal, state and local regulations and under the general supervision of Accounting Manager or Accounting Supervisor, the Senior Accountant assumes responsibilities for performing month end close and year-end audits for assigned properties. He or she is involved in following a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies, and US GAAP. This position performs accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year-end audit preparation. The accountant interacts with members of other departments which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Complete month end closes and prepare year-end audit packets for assigned properties by their respective due dates and as prescribed by the audit schedule. Senior Accountants are typically assigned more complex properties.
- Monitor fixed asset activity, analyze invoices of capital expenditures, and determine which qualify to be capitalized vs. expensed per fixed asset policy.
- Interact with manager, director, and other departments assisting with questions and resolving issues as they occur.
- Perform in depth analysis and reconciliation of all Balance Sheet and key Income Statement accounts.
- Perform in depth analysis and reconciliation for special circumstances such as property refinances, property acquisitions, and construction projects as they occur.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to external parties including lenders, banks, etc for assigned entities by their respective due dates.
- Mentor and help with training of staff accountants and new hires.

Skills: Must have good communication, comprehension, computer and interpersonal skills. Must have working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite.
