Summary:

The Senior Accountant / Cost Accountant plays a critical hybrid role in financial reporting, cost accounting, and operational finance. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, leading close processes, supporting cost accounting and inventory analysis, and driving ERP and process improvements.

 

This role partners closely with Accounting, Operations, Sourcing, and Finance to deliver insights that improve profitability, efficiency, and decision-making. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or CPG environment, and brings a proactive, continuous improvement mindset.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CMA (or active candidacy) strongly preferred
  • 5-7+ years of progressive accounting and/or cost accounting experience
  • Experience in CPG, food manufacturing, or beverage highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
  • Cost accounting, inventory accounting, and variance analysis experience
  • ERP experience required (NetSuite preferred)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to lead initiatives and influence change

 

Accountability # 1 – Financial Reporting & General Accounting   (40%):

  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Manage fixed assets, depreciation, and capital project tracking
  • Oversee lease accounting under ASC 842
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Coordinate with external auditors and support audit requests

 

 

Accountability # 2 – Cost Accounting and Inventory Management – (30%):

  • Maintain standard costing models and analyze manufacturing variances (labor, material, overhead)

 

  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to understand cost drivers and improve margins
  • Monitor inventory valuation, reserves, and cycle count processes
  • Analyze production performance, yields, and cost trends
  • Support product costing, pricing analysis, and margin improvement initiatives

 

Accountability # 3 – ERP Systems & Process Improvement – (15%)

 

  • Support and optimize ERP system functionality (NetSuite preferred)
  • Lead or participate in ERP enhancements, implementations, and reporting improvements
  • Drive automation and process efficiencies across accounting and cost accounting functions
  • Develop and maintain reporting tools, dashboards, and analytics

 

 

Accountability # 4 – Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration -(10%):

  • Mentor and support development of staff accountants or analysts
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Operations, Sales, Sourcing, Finance) to support business decisions
  • Communicate financial results and insights clearly to stakeholders

 

Accountability # 5 – Professional Development & Best Practices -(5%):

  • Stay current with accounting standards, cost accounting practices, and industry trends
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration

 

Accountability # 6 – Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit, communicate, and use hands for computer work
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or lifting (10–25 lbs.)
