The Senior Account Manager plays a critical role in driving client success by building solid, trusted partnerships and delivering strategic value across a portfolio of external payer clients within Optum's Transplant Solutions.
The Senior Account Manager is responsible for client satisfaction, retention, and growth through proactive relationship management, strategic guidance, and operational excellence. This role serves as the primary point of contact for payer clients, third party administrators, clinical management vendors, consultants, and internal partners, ensuring seamless delivery of Whole Health Solutions across products such as transplant, oncology, kidney, dialysis, congenital heart disease, ventricular assistive devices, and cell and gene therapy.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, the ability to build solid relationships with key decision makers of each client, and solid organizational skills. This role operates in a fast-paced, high-visibility client environment and requires the ability to quickly assume ownership of complex accounts with minimal oversight.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Serve as the primary relationship owner and point of contact for 10-15 assigned clients, managing day-to-day issues ensuring high-quality service delivery
    • Build and maintain solid, long-term relationships based on trust, responsiveness, and results
    • Communicate with clients via face-to-face meetings, conference calls, and written correspondence
    • Lead external client engagements, product educational sessions, and implementations, supporting product education and pull-through utilization across your book of business
  • Account Growth & Retention:
    • Drive client retention and identify opportunities for growth within existing accounts
    • Deliver insights, recommendations, and proactive strategies aligned to client goals
  • Service Delivery & Execution:
    • Oversee delivery of contracted services, ensuring performance meets or exceeds expectations
    • Partner cross-functionally with internal teams and external vendors to execute client initiatives
  • Operational & Strategic Support:
    • Provide education, guidance, and problem resolution across all applicable products
    • Lead issue resolution with urgency and accountability, ensuring positive client outcomes
  • Communication & Thought Leadership:
    • Tailor communications to client needs, including industry updates, product enhancements, and performance insights
    • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) and trusted advisor on Optum Transplant Solutions product portfolio

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in medical health insurance setting (e.g., health plan, TPA, PBM, stop loss)including account management, relationship management, client implementation, or project management
  • 3+ years of experience owning/managing external client-facing relationships (executive, operational, clinical stakeholders) in a healthcare environment, responding to questions from clients, issue resolution, and client satisfaction
  • 1+ years of demonstrated knowledge of healthcare benefits, benefit design, managed care programs, vendor networks, cost containment strategies, specialty healthcare solutions, or stop loss and reinsurance delivery
  • Experience serving as a primary contact for clients and partnering across internal teams to support client needs and deliver solutions
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven solid understanding of health insurance ecosystem, including employer and payer perspectives, as well as related operations and infrastructure
  • Demonstrated written, verbal, and presentation skills through experience leading client-facing meetings, business reviews, operational reviews, educational sessions, and executive presentations with internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using FACETS, ICUE, Salesforce or comparable CRM tools
  • Experience supporting healthcare, financial services, or employer benefit-related products
  • Experience in health plan management (network, operations, clinical)-transplant, oncology, or specialty care experience
  • Experience supporting client retention, growth, and strategic account planning
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a mentor to others

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
