Who You Are & What You’ll Do

The Senior Accessibility Subject Matter Expert will serve as a senior strategic and technical authority for Section 508 compliance, accessibility governance, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) quality assurance.

In this full-time role, you will perform high-level Section 508 testing of web content and electronic documents using Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approved assessment methods, conduct quality control reviews of test results completed by HQ 508 Program Trusted Testers, and provide end-to-end document remediation. Beyond testing and remediation, you will guide ICT project and acquisition efforts by evaluating Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) / Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs), advising project teams and senior management on accessibility risks throughout the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC), and serving as an operational back-up to the Government Section 508 Program.

What You Bring to the Table - Requirements
  • Certifications:

    • Active DHS Trusted Tester Version 5.0 (or later) Certification required.

    • Active IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) Certification required.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

  • Technical Experience:

    • 7+ years of overall experience working in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) environments.

    • 2+ years of dedicated experience testing web electronic content and applications for conformance to Section 508 Standards.

    • 2+ years of dedicated experience testing and remediating electronic documents and forms (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PDF) to Section 508 standards.

    • 3+ years of experience supporting ICT project and acquisition efforts by integrating Section 508 requirements across defined lifecycle stages.

  • Core Capabilities:

    • Quality Control & Review: Proven ability to conduct thorough quality checks and peer reviews of Section 508 test results submitted by HQ 508 Program Trusted Testers.

    • SDLC & Governance Advisory: Extensive experience advising project teams and senior leadership on Section 508 compliance, accessibility risk assessment, and technical remediation strategies throughout the system development lifecycle.

    • Acquisition & VPAT/ACR Evaluation: Technical expertise responding to complex accessibility inquiries during vendor product evaluations, including analyzing ACRs and VPATs.

    • Testing & Document Remediation: Advanced capability in developing accessibility test plans, interpreting test outputs, and performing hands-on remediation of complex electronic documents and forms using Federal CIO Council Community of Practice endorsed tests.

    • Programmatic Support: Ability to act as a reliable back-up to the Government Section 508 Program office as needed.

Skills Required
