At Fresh Start in Education, you'll have the freedom to teach differently - building trust, confidence and a love of learning through personalised 1:1 support for young people who are currently out of education across Dorset.

What you'll do:
  • Deliver 1:1 or 2:1 personalised learning in homes or community settings. 
  • Plan creative sessions tailored to each learner's strengths, interests and goals. 
  • Support children and young people with SEND and SEMH needs
  • Encourage confidence, resilience and positive engagement with learning.

What you need:
  • At least one year's experience supporting young people with SEND, SEMH needs or other additional needs.
  • Experience planning and delivering learning sessions, particularly around core subjects.
  • Confidence using positive behaviour support, de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
  • Update to date safeguarding knowledge. 
  • Availability for at least two consistent weekdays.

Skills Required

  • Experience supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Qualified teacher, tutor, teaching assistant, SEN specialist, or other education professional.
  • Background or experience in Primary, Secondary or Post-16 teaching or specialist SEND environments.
  • Experience or interest in working with students with autism, communication needs, and learning difficulties.
  • Minimum availability of two consistent weekdays.
  • Up-to-date understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks including ID, Right to Work, employment checks and an enhanced DBS.
  • Familiarity with Makaton, PECS, de-escalation, and behaviour management training.
