Overall responsibility for ensuring proper planning and organizing of day-to-day operations within assigned business segment is completed.Coordinates and oversees team activities to ensure smooth and efficient workflow, quality production, and timely delivery.
Leads, motivates, and coaches individual and team development in the segment, quality performance, cost parameters, and service to internal and external customers.
Gives direction and improvement strategies for manufacturing, distribution, and supply chain processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all team members are working in a safe manner through coaching, driving behavior-based safety culture, continuous monitoring for unsafe acts, identifying maintenance concerns, slip/trip/ fall concerns, etc. Key members in understanding root cause, developing, and implementing corrective actions to eliminate hazards.
- Coaching Team Leads and Operators in a safety-oriented work environment within each Production Department segment.
- Coaching of Team Leads on submitting incident and near miss reports and identifying safety improvements.
- Coaches team members on continuous improvement, participates in Kaizen events, and drives improvement through inclusive participation of team members in Kaizen events.
- Leads and coaches Team Leads on daily pre-shift meetings to ensure good handoff between shifts with focus on communication of production wins, positive small wins from the day before, issues, quality concerns, metrics, goals, etc.
- JHA on new and modified equipment.
- Assist engineers with trials
- Recommend new equipment for annual capital plan
Quality
- Identify training gaps and take the lead in creating training documents where applicable.
- Promote 100% quality in each assigned segment through knowledge transfer and other methods
- Drive accurate reporting of inventory such as finished good production, scrap, and other future metrics within company’s systems such as ERP and real time data tracking.
- Ensure Team Leads are owning quality through periodic and defined quality inspections.
- Ensure areas are following AS9100
Productivity
- Communicates production schedule changes with team members
- Supports Operation Team members on plant floor as needed through floating the floor multiple times a day to check on and resolve any team member, maintenance, process related, or other issues through communication with the appropriate team member, such as process engineering or maintenance technicians.
- Project staffing for daily and future production needs.
- Shift labor to address bottleneck situations and schedule OT accordingly.
- Review daily production by area and utilize production reports to identify areas in need of improvement.
- Identify causation for low productivity in areas (machine/quality/operator) and recommend/take action to solve.
- Work closely with Sales and Team Leads to ensure the correct product is being manufactured.
- Update backlog, identify pull ins/lates in collaboration with Team Leads.
- Achieve set revenue and on time delivery goals by driving performance among the team and partnering with other departments.
- Work closely with Engineering, Operations Manager, Sales etc. to maintain optimum conditions and throughput of product.
- Actively participate in weekly S&OP meetings.
People
- Direct and ensure success in training of all personnel in business segment through a motivating and coaching approach.
- Promote OLPC environment through coaching and empowerment of Team Leads and drive down through organization.
- Own Operator interview candidates process and provide significant input for hiring recommendations.
- Partner with Human Resources on matters pertaining to team member relations.
- Provide coaching and leadership to establish and maintain a strong, adaptable, and resilient manufacturing team. Along with communicating job expectations clearly, developing personal growth opportunities for team members, delivering positive reinforcement, redirection for correcting behaviors, disciplinary discussions, and performance reviews.
- Own and partner with HR on direct report annual performance reviews, corrective discussions, and disciplinary action.
- Assist in personnel corrective action reports and ensure employee relations are addressed in a timely manner.
- Ensure segment maintains 100% utilization by attendance.
- Conduct weekly team meetings.
- Complete weekly timecard review, vacation, and approvals for all hourly team members within business segment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of basic to moderate math skills.
- Ability to learn and develop extensive knowledge of product specifications and production standards.
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience in a supervisory role preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving techniques.
- Very strong skills in the areas of leadership, coaching, and team building
- Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software such as company ERP system.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Equivalent experience of 3 - 5 years minimum within a manufacturing environment, in a supervisory capacity.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers and other department personnel.
- Must be able to read, write, understand and communicate in English
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift, push, and move 50 lbs.
- Ability to work with hand tools.
- Ability to bend, move between equipment, and aisles of product.
- Ability to stand and move around production facility throughout entire shift if needed.
- Ability to sit at a desk and conduct computer work for extended periods of time if needed.
- Ability to wear Safety attire or protective gear daily.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Wear safety attire or protective gear daily.
- Work indoors. These sites may not be temperature-controlled.
- They are often exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.
