SUMMARY: 

The Accounting Manager is responsible for all accounting functions associated with the segment of INSURICA related to NAS Risk Solutions, LLC (NAS) Insurance Pool System Management. NAS has several administrative agreements with several entities under Inter-local Pool agreements: PCAT, PCAL, CPAT, and other related agreements, which require full Insurance Company accounting management, including, but not limited to, G/L, Cash Management, Investing, Claim Payments, Vendor Invoicing, UPR, and Loss Reserve oversight, Reinsurance management, YE Audit completion, and Actuarial oversight.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Direct the Pool and NAS Accounting processes through the monthly general ledger close process, ensuring balance sheet and income statement accounts are reconciled and deadlines are met
  • Direct the Pool and NAS Accounting daily operating processes
  • Complete Pool Insurance-compliant consolidated financial statements with comparisons to the prior year, and related financial activities through NAS financials
  • Participate in the annual budget process and monthly forecasting for multiple entities/departments through coordination with branch leadership
  • Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards
  • Drive the annual audit for the pools, including the actuarial support data.
  • Provide support to GL and Accounts Payable teams to ensure accounting transactions are properly recorded
  • Review and challenge existing processes for efficiency and accuracy to gain opportunities
  • Oversee monthly financial analysis for NAS and Pool Insurance and related activities with NAS with timely responses to questions from NAS leadership
  • Assist in the selection of new/replacement accounting and ancillary systems to support a fast-growing business environment
  • Maintain current process documentation and ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and being followed
  • Willing to teach/train to assist with the professional development of the accounting team
  • Provide a confident leadership presence, demonstrating a positive outlook and motivating employees, by promoting individual excellence and achievement, as well as a team concept
  • Participate in position-appropriate seminars and other training to develop and maintain knowledge and skills

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Reading, writing, and verbal skills sufficient to understand and communicate complex documents/information
  • Strong PC skills, with a focus on the Microsoft suite of products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.), as well as the ability to effectively utilize agency management systems
  • Strong understanding of GAAP with the ability to perform technical research
  • Solid understanding of intercompany eliminations and consolidations
  • Highly organized and analytical, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully meet required deadlines
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, changing priority environment
  • Self-motivated, with the initiative to prioritize and be self-directed
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required, including a commitment to facilitate month-end processes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both colleagues and managers, across all levels
  • Ability to promote, and maintain a team environment, willing to find accommodating solutions for our customers, companies, and the Agency
  • Ability to successfully adhere to company policies and procedures, as well as maintain strict confidentiality

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7-9 Years of previous technical accounting experience preferred
  • 3-5 Years of public accounting experience preferred
  • 2-4 Years of previous experience managing or leading financial teams
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Business with current CPA designation desired
  • Prior experience with Insurance Accounting Standards

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS:

  • Fast-paced, multi-tasking, office environment with periodic high disruption and changing priorities
  • Ability to perform approximately 80% sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and negligible force frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Requires operation of a computer workstation, including keyboard and video display
  • All requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate physical or mental impairment

Skills Required

  • 7-9 years technical accounting experience
  • 3-5 years public accounting experience
  • 2-4 years managing or leading financial teams
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business
  • Current CPA designation
  • Prior experience with Insurance Accounting Standards, reinsurance, and loss reserve oversight
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and ability to perform technical accounting research
  • Solid understanding of intercompany eliminations and consolidations
