Job DescriptionPrimary Responsibilities
Responsible to understand and carry out testing methodologies as outlined in the Canadian Methods and Procedures, and/or equivalent documentation (ISTA, AOSA, REGAL).
The Accredited Seed Analyst ensures that the laboratory meets quality and customer expectations in a timely and effective manner while in compliance to corporate quality, environmental, Health & Safety requirements.
Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepares samples for testing, planting, and evaluating for areas trained and accredited for
- Directly supervise Seed Analyst Trainees and Lab Technicians
- Ensures that all staff under their supervision or operating in their work areas, are aware of the occupational health and safety risks of the area and are using personal protective equipment as necessary.
- Accredited Analyst Scope of Accreditation: Tables 1 through 20
- Understand and apply the SGS Code of Integrity
- Understand and apply the Global SGS Quality and Professionalism Policy Statement
- Understand and apply the Quality Policy of SGS Crop Science and all aspects of the Quality system.
- Take action to prevent a non conformance from reaching a client.
- Identify and report quality problems in processes to the Quality System.
- Control further processing until the problem is corrected.
- Recommend or provide solutions to non-conformance
Experience:
Position requires specialized knowledge giving additional depth beyond high school to a specialized or technical field. High school plus additional specialized or formal training equal to 2 or 3 years of college.
Very important that this experience be in an accredited laboratory.
- CFIA seed analyst accreditation or equivalent. (ISTA, AOSA, REGAL)
- High level of accuracy is required, with special attention to details
- French bilingualism is a strong asset
- Seed Import conformity Assessor certification is a strong asset
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (verbal and written). Must be able to read and comprehend labels and instructions.
- Position requires a dependable and reliable individual; whose daily presence adds to the success of the Department
- Ability to follow instructions independently, with little or no supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups both within the organization or while representing the organization.
- Excellent time management skills which includes the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with different deadlines) and marshal the resources necessary to accomplish them.
- Ability to design optimal solutions for problems and the ability to work with others in solve larger complex problems.
- Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
- Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
- Ability to work well with others & independently.
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Works well under pressure.
- Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
- Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
- Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
