DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Manager of Recreation Secuity, the Security Officer is responsible for:
- Surveillance of park areas and facilities as assigned and maintaining radio communication with sworn officers.
- Guiding and directing park and recreation patrons in their use of park areas and facilities.
- Providing crowd and traffic control at park district special events and facilities.
- Contacting the appropriate sworn officer when enforcement action is needed.
- Inspecting the total assigned area to ensure it is safe for park patrons, take necessary steps and actions to correct unsafe situations under the direction of the Manager of Recreation Security.
- Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
- Performing all other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions: The work requires periodic physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment and materials relative to the services rendered. Prolonged standing, bending and stooping, and ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Minimum of two years experience in a security and safety program required or previous recipient of a Permanent Employment Registration Card (PERC) from the State of Illinois or equivalent from another state; or prior successful completion of a 20-hour basic security training course certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Basic knowledge of safety laws and codes as they pertain to the Park District and the laws of the city, county and state.
- Basic knowledge of all safety practices.
- Understanding of park district goals, objectives, programs and standards of maintenance.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work harmoniously with other employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both speaking and writing.
- Ability to instruct personnel in safety matters.
- Must maintain a valid Illinois State Driver’s License.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customer
