The Secure Detention Supervisor assists administration with the overall operations of the facility and performs related tasks as required. Responsible for the implementation and oversight of daily programming and scheduling. Coordinates and implements orientation, training, and supervision of Supervising Detention Counselors and all subordinate staff. Secure Detention Supervisors may be assigned on a rotating shift basis and on alternating work schedules including weekends and holidays as needed. Primary responsibility involves overall program supervision, and at times functioning in the capacity of facility administrator. Performs related work as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in human services, plus four (4) years of full-time paid experience in an detention or residential setting working with youth and young adults aged 10-20; including at least two (2) years functioning in a supervisory capacity OR High school Diploma or equivalent six (8) years of full-time paid experience in an in detention or residential setting working with youth and young adults aged 10 – 20 including at least two (2) years functioning in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with variable hours including day, evening, weekend, holiday and subject to on call hours. 
  • Require a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.  Travel is required. Ability to coordinate and plan travel for visits and appointments in an efficient manner. 
  • Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population. 
  • Skills: demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, including attention to detail; capable of working in a stressful environment; ability to become TCI, First/Aid CPR certified.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in human services plus four years full-time paid experience in a detention or residential setting with youth aged 10-20, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity
  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus eight years full-time paid experience in a detention or residential setting with youth aged 10-20, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity (alternative to degree route)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with variable hours including day, evening, weekend, holiday and subject to on-call hours
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle; travel required and ability to coordinate travel for visits and appointments
  • Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Ability to obtain TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) and First Aid/CPR certification
