Position Overview

Third Bridge's Library division delivers investment research to its global institutional investor client base, including managers investing across listed equities, fixed income, private equity, real assets, and other alternatives. 

The Sector Analyst team within the Library division is responsible for uncovering actionable insights through in-depth conversations with senior executives and industry specialists, driving sector and regional coverage strategy, and engaging with clients to showcase the value of our research.

We are looking for an analyst to join our growing team in Tokyo. Coverage will depend on candidates’ experience and team coverage requirements, but previous experience in semiconductors/tech hardware, materials, or financials could be advantageous.

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Conduct in-depth research on your allocated coverage areas, including sector thematics, listed and private businesses in Japan;

  • Generate actionable investment ideas, perform initial due diligence and prepare detailed questions lists, and then go deeper into the subject matter by hosting interviews on those topics with industry experts and executives;

  • Drive discussions with industry specialists, extracting value-added and actionable insight throughout your discussions;

  • Engage with clients to present your research and foster relationships. Collaborate with our internal account management and sales teams to broaden your reach and build a brand for yourself;

  • Build out your network with industry specialists across your areas of coverage; do deep-dives on industries/companies, figure out where specialists have non-consensus views, and build out a pipeline of content.

  • Strong Communicator; excellent written and verbal communication skills, highly logical and structured, and exceptional attention to detail.

  • Results Driven; self-starter committed to digging deep into their coverage, a high degree of work ethic, and personal responsibility/ownership for the role,

Qualifications

  • Native command of spoken and written Japanese, and strong English skills

  • 1-3yrs of relevant experience in either Japan-focused equity research, investigative (financial) journalism, private equity dealflow, or management consulting

  • Proven experience in conducting (equity) research and/or demonstrated ability to conduct fundamental, bottom-up research

  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills that would help build rapport when driving your research with experts

  • Strong team orientation, highly collaborative with proven experience in driving outcomes through teamwork

  • Allocated sector coverage will be dependent on candidate profile, experience, and team coverage requirements
