Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Section Manager – High Speed Digital Design to join our team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.
The Electrical Systems Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware-based solutions. The individual selected for this position will be a working manager responsible for supervising a team of Electrical Design Engineers while also contributing to programs for internal and external customers. As a manager, the individual will develop and grow their team to support organizational objectives with an emphasis on scaling and quality improvement. As a technical contributor and leader, the individual will support a variety of programs to develop electronic assemblies integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems. The individual will be expected to manage their time and priorities effectively to ensure both project and organizational success.
The individual must be a self-starter with strong technical skills and a proven history of technical leadership. The individual must also have excellent communication skills and a desire to build and develop a team to tackle challenging technical problems.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide technical oversight and mentorship to develop team members
-
Develop strong working relationships with team members to meet productivity and retention goals
-
Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-ones with team members
-
Scale the team by identifying hiring needs, writing job postings, coordinating screening of applicants, interviewing on-site, and making hiring recommendations
-
Architect, design, develop and test complex PCB designs utilizing embedded microprocessors, microcontrollers, FPGAs or SoCs to meet system requirements
-
Propose and implement ideas to improve organizational quality, agility, and capability
-
Support organizational business development goals and initiatives by providing technical input to proposals
-
Perform necessary reporting, approvals, and other administrative tasks
-
Provide technical input to program leadership during the planning and execution of engineering projects
-
Perform hardware system development from developing/deriving requirements to employing appropriate techniques for design, fabrication, integration, and test
-
Work split between management tasks and technical tasks is expected to be ~ 25% management, 75% technical

Basic Qualifications:

Candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution

Candidate must have 2+ years of demonstrated experience leading small to mid-sized technical teams
-
Candidate must have 5+ years of experience in high-speed digital PCB design and troubleshooting including embedded processor, microcontroller, or FPGA-based designs

Candidate must have experience with high-speed design analysis tools such as HyperLynx
-
Candidate must have experience with multiple high-speed serial communication standards and memory interfaces (e.g. GigE, 10 GigE, Aurora, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, JESD204B, PCIe, SATA)

Candidate must have experience with technical problem solving and root cause analysis

Candidate must demonstrate an ability to decompose system-level considerations (i.e. requirements) to lower design levels
-
Position requires the candidate to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams
-
Candidate must have the ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams
-
Candidate must have proven understanding of fundamental circuits and circuit components
-
Candidate must have hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods
-
Candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently
-
Candidate must have strong verbal and written technical communication skills
-
Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference shown to a candidate who possesses a master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university
Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge of:

Personnel management including hiring, employee development, and staffing coordination

Evaluating and implementing processes improvement initiatives

Project management including cost and schedule oversight

Business development activities including developing briefings, white papers, and proposals

Electrical design for military hardware or aerospace system
Security Requirements:
Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance

Pay Range:Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
