Role Purpose:  Support the safe, efficient operation of the ship’s engineering systems while promoting the safety and well-being of the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
Supervise the engine room team, ensure the safe operation of the engine room, and oversee maintenance tasks on all engine room equipment. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
The 2nd Engineer should be well-versed in company policies, SOLAS, MARPOL, and flag state regulations. Key knowledge areas include marine engineering systems, electrical and automation systems, emergency management, and planned maintenance. Skills in troubleshooting, risk assessment, and waste management are essential, along with strong analytical abilities, team leadership, and adaptability to modern technology and software. 
Experience: Demonstrates leadership in guiding and mentoring the engine room team, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experienced in managing engine room operations and maintenance, consistently ensuring safe, efficient performance and a commitment to environmental compliance. Able to make sound decisions in complex situations, showing reliability and decisiveness during emergencies.
