JOB OVERVIEW:

Under general supervision provides operational support during harvest (approx. August- October) to the almond receiving team to ensure the efficient and timely receipt of almonds from our Growers. Provides support with the receiving and shipping of almonds to the Sacramento plant for processing and storing of crop receipts Salida plant. Expected to learn and follow established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), policies and procedures, and safety procedures while performing job duties. Must be able to work non-traditional work weeks and hours e.g. Wednesday to Sunday 5:00 pm to 1:30 am.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists receiving department team members with monitoring of almonds as they flow through the system by continuously feeding the bins for production and to storage areas. 
  • Operates and monitors basic receiving equipment such as pit scales, elevator systems, conveying belts, and barcoding equipment.
  • Operates basic receiving equipment such as shuttle trucks, and forklifts.
  • Assigns warehouse classification number and issues proper documentation for all grower deliveries as well as all in plant and inter-warehouse transfers to and from the Salida Plant during receiving.
  • Ensures cleanliness of designated work area as per Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s); performs duties within safety guidelines.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS                                                                     

Minimum level of education required 

  • High School Diploma or GED       

Minimum number of year(s) of experience required in addition to education plus type(s) of functional experience

Other job requirements (e.g. certifications/licenses, CPG experience, work overtime/weekends, etc.)

  • Overtime as necessary is a requirement to the performance of this position. Long hours are necessary during the receiving season. 
  • Must be able to lift min. 50 lb.
  • Cleaning pits and working in non-permitted confined spaces and working on catwalks above 8’.
  • Excellent communication skills to work with others within the department to coordinate incoming deliveries and not mix varieties/quality of almonds.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES (Specialized education, specific software experience, etc.)

  • Almond processing experience.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Machine operating experience.
  • Knowledge of the different varieties/quality of incoming almonds as errors may cause significant problems for Blue Diamond Growers in terms of lost product and customer satisfaction.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Long hours are necessary during the receiving season.  Dexterity required working with moving machinery.   Must be able to push, pull, and lift min. 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works is around moving traffic i.e. semi-truck/trailer trucks, trucks, forklifts, and loader.  May work from elevated locations and climb ladders to perform this position.  Some equipment produces high level of noise.  High level of almond dust.  Work is mostly outdoors and subject to all weather conditions
