Search Engineer, Buyer

We are currently looking for a Search Engineer to join one of our cross-functional agile teams within the Buyer domain. The Search Platform subdomain is a platform team providing services for stream aligned teams within the Search domain. The Search Platform team currently provides 2 services to the company. We provide a Vespa search engine infrastructure suite that powers items search, search suggestions, recommendations, help center and internal search systems. The second service is Search Indexing Pipeline built on top of Apache Flink is able to process vast streams of data. In this role you will be working on these 2 services where you will help us to keep up with the Vinted growth as well enable product teams to build new features.

As our new Search Engineer you’ll also be responsible for growing our backend platform to handle an accelerating platform scale. Your main aim will be preparing our product for the challenges that lie ahead and making sure it contributes to the Vinted vision of making second-hand the first choice.

• Work in a team and shape the features to make our members’ life better.
• Apply Agile and Lean principles in your work.
• Collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews.
• Improve and write new services.
• Work with Java, Scala, Golang and write streaming applications on top of Apache Flink.
• See your code affect 65+ million users almost instantly. Our master branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge. We deploy many times per day.
• Scale Vespa search engine, Data streams and many other technologies. We don't expect you to be familiar with all of them beforehand.
• Write code that can handle more than 2 million requests per minute. Monitor your deployed code using Kibana, Grafana, and Datadog, along with any new tools that you introduce.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure our systems stability.

• Willingness to learn and master new technologies and concepts.
• We expect you to be familiar with most, and have deep knowledge in at least a few of the following disciplines: Search systems, Algorithms, Software Engineering, Systems Architecture, Systems Scaling, Systems Performance Tuning, Computer Science.
• Prior experience with: Search systems, Elasticsearch, search relevance optimization, Solr, Lucene, Vespa search engine, Kafka, Apache Flink or streaming applications in general would be an advantage.
• Proficient programming skills are required as we need to engineer and maintain our tools daily.

The salary range for this position is €6,542 - €8,842 gross per month.
