Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Quality Engineer is to own and manage all aspects of quality, effectively and efficiently for Motorola Solution’s EMS. Using proven methodologies, the Quality Engineer will, as a subject matter expert during the manufacturing process ensuring quality throughout the process and ultimately are the voice and advocate of our customers.

Reporting to the Make/Deliver Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer will work very closely with global quality teams from various plants nationally and internationally. This role will also work closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, Technical Support, Service and Order Management teams during day to day operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for the overall quality performance of the EMS for our LMR and Video product Line. Key responsibilities include:

  • Initiate detailed quality plans to identify and define quality related goals for the project that effectively addresses the expectations of the customer and deliverables.
  • Facilitate and lead all cross functional activities to effectively address stop-ship/stop-build events, utilizing an 8D methodology to drive issues to effective and timely resolution. 
  • Drive resolution of complex multi-disciplinary problems/customer complaints using JIRA tool and using an 8D methodology throughout issue investigation to drive high customer satisfaction.
  • Champion design and manufacturing improvements based on return data analysis trends to reduce DQ and enhance the customer experience.
  • Develop, maintain, and report on product quality Metrics/KPIs relating to stated Goals and Objectives.
  • Prepare and present quality performance results on a regular basis to senior Supply Chain and Design Engineering leadership.
  • Manage quality performance of all in house manufactured product and OEM/ODM supplied products by monitoring KPIs and when necessary, initiating requests for Corrective Actions.
  • Drive robust Preventive Actions identifying underlying process gaps to prevent recurrence of significant quality issues.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with a high sense of urgency.
  • Highly organized, good attention to detail, capable of multi-tasking and following through on tasks to completion.
  • Excellent quality planning, decision making, and leadership skills, able to influence and persuade others and resolve conflicts.
  • Possess strong communication skills (both written and verbal), able to interact with all stakeholders and act as a professional representative of the corporation.
  • Eagerness to operate in a dynamic fast paced environment with an ability to drive change. 
  • Good understanding of electrical circuit design, electronic hardware, firmware and software
  • In depth working knowledge of 8D methodologies, establishing root cause and corrective actions.
  • Good understanding and ability to apply various Quality tools such as; APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC. 
  • Preferably experienced in effectively driving Design for Quality and Reliability activities such as - DFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, MTBF prediction, Useful Life Analysis etc.
  • Good understanding of integrated management system principles, ISO9001 essential, ISO14001 preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office App, Google Apps, Statistical Software (such as Minitab) and a willingness to learn and utilize new tools within the organization.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Agile/PLM preferred.
  • Certified Quality Engineer preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • 3 or more years of Quality experience working in a manufacturing environment with electro/mechanical products.
