About the role:
Teachmint is looking for a highly skilled SDE 3 – Backend engineer to drive the design and development of our large-scale backend systems. In this role, you'll take ownership of complex technical problems, build high-performance services in Python, and influence architectural decisions across the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Ownership: Lead end-to-end development of backend services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Architecture & System Design: Define and implement robust backend architectures aligned with best practices and business needs.
- Hands-on Development: Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code while contributing to testing, debugging, and optimization.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with frontend, DevOps, product, and QA teams to deliver cohesive solutions.
- Code Quality: Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
- Problem Solving: Diagnose production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
- Continuous Improvement: Explore new technologies, evaluate tools, and propose innovative approaches to enhance backend capabilities.
Requirements and Skills:
- Python Proficiency: 5+ years of experience with Python 3.x and frameworks like Django or Flask.
- Backend Excellence: Strong background in system design, architecture patterns, and distributed systems.
- Database Skills: Experience working with both NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Cloud Experience: Hands-on exposure to AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Authentication & Authorization: Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML 2.0, and JWT token lifecycle, plus institutional SSO with providers like Google Workspace or Microsoft Entra ID.
- Observability: Hands-on with Open Telemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, distributed tracing, and defining SLIs and SLOs.
- Event-Driven Infrastructure: Experience with Kafka, Pub/Sub, or similar, including idempotency and delivery semantics.
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, or other container orchestration solutions.
- Experience with Pytest, Unittest, or similar testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
- Compliance and Governance:** Exposure to GDPR, FERPA, or COPPA requirements, data residency constraints, consent management, and audit logging.
- Cost and Efficiency: Experience owning cloud spend, right-sizing infrastructure, and tuning autoscaling for efficiency at scale.
