The Role

We are hiring a Scrum Master to keep our engineering teams on track, maintain and optimize our Jira and Confluence environments, and document and strengthen our development processes. This role combines hands-on tooling administration with team facilitation and process improvement to increase team predictability, quality, and throughput.

Preference will be given to candidates local to Newport News, VA.

Key responsibilities

  • Run Agile ceremonies: facilitate daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure predictable sprint outcomes.
  • Jira administration: configure projects, workflows, issue types, screens, permissions, boards, and automation rules; maintain clean backlog hygiene and sprint boards for multiple teams.
  • Confluence management: develop and maintain templates, knowledge bases, meeting notes, and runbooks; link Confluence pages to Jira issues to keep documentation current.
  • Process design and documentation: map current development workflows, identify gaps, define standard operating procedures, and create clear, versioned documentation for engineering practices.
  • Remove impediments: proactively identify blockers, coordinate cross-functional follow-up, and escalate when needed to keep teams focused on delivery.
  • Metrics and reporting: track and report sprint velocity, cycle time, burn-down/up, and other actionable KPIs; present insights and improvement recommendations to engineering leadership.
  • Continuous improvement: run retrospectives and lead experiments to incrementally improve team processes, workflows, and tooling automation.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree and 8+ years of experience, experience can be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 2+ years experience in a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or similar role supporting software development teams.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Hands-on Jira and Confluence experience: administration, workflow design, boards, automation, and content organization in Confluence.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to document and standardize development processes and translate them into Jira workflows and Confluence artifacts.
  • Experience using data to drive decisions: comfortable with sprint metrics and actionable reporting.

Preferred skills and certifications

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent.
  • Experience with Jira automation, Scripting, or CI/CD integrations.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycles, code review processes, and test/QA workflows.
  • Experience scaling Agile across multiple teams or working in an enterprise Atlassian environment.
  • Experience with additional Atlassian tools (Bitbucket) or other project-tracking systems.

Pay Range:Pay Range $89,700.00 - $162,150.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
