The Role

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Scientist 1 that will work in a team environment on all phases in support of Life Cycle Management Verifications and Validations or testing in support of System Development . The Scientist will perform various assignments related to the experimental design and testing of assay performance on the VITROS and other QuidelOrtho products in the laboratory in accordance with cGMP regulations. Preferred candidate has a minimum of 6 months experience running VITROS analyzers. This position will also include documentation and summarization of the experimental data.  Additional laboratory work may include preparation of complex biological solutions using established protocols, including reconstitution of calibrators and controls. These protocols may include weighing chemicals, volumetric additions of various biological components, pipetting, filtration, ultra-filtration, etc. 

This will be an onsite opportunity at our Rochester, NY location.

The Position

  • As part of a technical team; create, execute, and understand experimental test designs for the VITROS analyzers to complete testing aimed for the verification and validation of new vitro diagnostic products or processes using established protocols and SOP’s.
  • Provide technical support by executing test designs on diagnostic instruments to drive accurate test results.
  • Maintain analyzer equipment related to the VITROS testing (daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance) and perform necessary calibration, QC, and documentation according to SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed in accordance with cGMP and the procedures outlined in the Quality System.  This includes Design History files, QC, equipment maintenance, and other associated testing documentation.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe workplace and clean work area and analyzer upon test completion.
  • Perform training on SOP's, protocols, and other laboratory documents
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • BS in Clinical Laboratory Science / Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in a lab environment is required. Basic understanding of laboratory skills and techniques (weighing, pipette use, volumetric measure, etc.) are required.
  • Familiarity with safe chemical and biological handling required.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel) are required.
  • Pay attention to detail
  • Work collaboratively or alone
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be required.
  • Travel % - Infrequent
  • This position is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship.

  • Ability to do some level of troubleshooting
  • Ability to perform primary testing on VITROS analyzers
  • Ability to present information cross functionally

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory, or warehouse environment and include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples. Up to 75% of the time at desk, standing or sitting extended periods of time. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines. Required to be in the laboratory much of the day following all safety protocols. May have to perform testing in environmental chamber or work in cold rooms.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to work in a biohazard lab environment and requires use of protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves, lab coats). The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, push and pull, repetitive movement (pipetting of samples). Working in the lab, standing or sitting extended periods of time.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $30-$32 an hour [and is bonus eligible or eligible for incentive compensation.] QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays.
