Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a proactive and ambitious Scientist I, Formulation to join our Quality Control team in Carlsbad, CA. • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Qualify product(s) in a lab setting following standard operating procedures
• Perform various assays including PCR, qPCR, Bioanalyzer, HPLC, HPIC, and nucleic acid purification
• Analyze data and actively participate in troubleshooting
• Follow controlled protocols and maintain equipment and product inventories
• Identify and implement manufacturing procedures to optimize existing processes
• Initiate and bring up problem reports related to production issues or deviations when they occur
• May perform radioactive assays and analysis, TR-FRET assays, fluorescence based assays, and protein concentration assays
• Other duties as assigned

Keys to Success:

Education and Experience

• High School diploma and 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing or research laboratory; or Associates Degree in a scientific field and at least 2 years of experience; or Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and 0-2+ years of demonstrated experience
• Introductory experience in scientific laboratory techniques and equipment
• Excellent documentation and communication techniques

Work Environment:

• Works in a clean, controlled, manufacturing lab environment with specialized equipment
• Regularly required to lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally up to 45 pounds with assistance and/or equipment
• May be required to stand for long periods of time
• Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed
• Must work with chemicals and hazardous materials safely
• Occasional use of a step-stool is required to reach for objects
• While performing duties of this position, employee will occasionally work with fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals
