The Opportunity:
As a Scientific Assistant within the School of Molecular Biosciences, you will perform laboratory research by conducting microbiological and biochemical assays, including bacterial culture, serial dilutions, plating for viable count enumeration, and related biochemical procedures. This position maintains detailed records, ensures quality control, and supports daily laboratory operations. You may supervise and train undergraduate researchers. The Scientific Assistant assists with stability testing and maintains a safe working environment. No journal publications or public presentations on project specifics are expected.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time (100% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime eligible.
Temporary End Date:
This is a temporary position expected to end on June 30, 2027. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Monthly Salary:
$3,750.85 - $5,397.56 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.
A bachelor's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, food science, plant pathology or a closely related field is required.
Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Reliable, detail-oriented, and professional demeanor suited to a focused lab environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
One or more years of hands-on laboratory experience in microbiology, biochemistry, or a related field.
