Though 9 in 10 Latino young adults say a college degree is important for success in life, fewer than 15% age 25 or older hold a bachelor’s degree. Voices College-Bound Language Academies exists to change that.
Voices is a public charter school network with a mission to prepare all students for the challenges of higher education through the context of an academically rigorous dual-immersion program. Every student, regardless of home language, graduates bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.
Role Summary
The Custodian will clean and maintain the school facility to ensure a safe, secure and comfortable environment conducive to student learning. The Custodian cleans classrooms, restrooms, offices and related facilities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the safe use and operation of equipment and chemicals used in janitorial work. The Custodian may work school hours or after hours: evening, nights and some weekends as needed. Upholds the mission and values established by Voices Academies and places the safety and well being of students above all other issues.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, door panels, and hand railings. Vacuums rugs and carpets. Dusts furniture, empties and cleans trash receptacles
- Cleans classrooms, rest rooms, hallways, multipurpose room, offices and all interior rooms
- Locks and unlocks doors and gates to ensure security of buildings and related areas
- Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site
- Attends or participates in in-service or on-line training
- Inspects work areas for the purpose of ensuring safety and cleanliness, and identifies necessary repairs
- Minor pest control and clean up
- Cleans doors, glass and drinking fountains
- Reports safety, sanitary and/or fire hazards to supervisor
- May assist and perform routine grounds keeping duties as required
- Lift, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, move heavy objects (up to 75 lbs.), etc.
- Exposure to cleaning solutions, disinfectants, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, bacteria, bodily fluid, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the safe use and operation of equipment and chemicals used in janitorial and custodial work
- Ability to read, speak, and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and support, Voices Academy's mission, vision, values, standards, policies, procedures, instructions, confidentiality standards and ethical behavior
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
- Works well in a high pressure environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of janitorial experience
- Ability to read, speak, and write in Spanish
Working Conditions:
- Regular requirement to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch
- Lift, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, move heavy objects (up to 75 lbs.), etc.
- Exposure to cleaning solutions, disinfectants, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, bacteria, bodily fluid, etc.
- Evening and or weekend work
- Occasional travel
- Willingness to be trained as needed
Prior to Employment: Once an offer has been extended, a candidate must meet the following criteria to receive a final agreement:
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Pass physical exam
- Clear Criminal Background Check
- Valid TB Clearance
Key Compensation:
- Hourly compensation range: $17.00 - $21.00
- Retirement plan
Employment:
- Reports directly to Business Manager and Principal
- Permanent Part-Time, Non-Exempt Position
- Position follows 10 month calendar
- At-Will Contract
