POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nursing Assistant to join our team at One City Schools. The School Nursing Assistant will provide essential healthcare support to students in grades PK-8, assisting the school nurse in ensuring the well-being and health of our students. This role requires a strong sense of responsibility, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with both students and staff.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Healthcare Support: Assist the school nurse in providing healthcare services to students, including administering basic first aid, medication administration (as per school policies), and maintaining accurate health records for each student.
  • Health Screenings: Conduct routine health screenings such as vision, hearing, and height/weight measurements, and maintain records of screening results for each student.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies and accidents that occur on school premises, providing immediate care and notifying appropriate personnel as necessary.
  • Student Support: Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to address students' health needs and ensure the implementation of individualized health plans as required.
  • Health Education: Assist in developing and delivering health education programs to students, promoting healthy habits and preventive measures, and supporting curriculum-related health topics.
  • Medication Management: Safely store and dispense prescribed medications to students in accordance with school policies and procedures, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Health Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records, including immunization records, health history forms, and incident reports.
  • Communication: Communicate with parents and guardians regarding students' health concerns, injuries, illnesses, and necessary follow-up actions, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Hygiene and Sanitation: Promote a clean and hygienic environment by overseeing the maintenance of the health office, ensuring proper sanitation and disposal of medical waste.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the school nurse, teachers, administrators, and other support staff to ensure a coordinated approach to student health and well-being.

ROLE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program is preferred.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or healthcare setting is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in handling sensitive health information.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine concern for students' well-being.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic school environment.
