- Obtains necessary surgical authorizations.
- Obtains required Pre-op clearances per ASA guidelines.
- Facilitates the collection of the Physicians Surgical fees per office guidelines.
- Obtains and enters necessary scheduling information from person requesting surgical time.
- Considers instrument and equipment limitations of department when scheduling elective surgeries.
- Allows adequate time for each procedure according to physician's request. Attempts to schedule similar types of cases in same room to increase efficiency.
- Verifies all patients’ names, procedures, surgeons and times. Faxes demographics to facility.
- Obtains all missing patient information from physician's offices as well as names of assistants, equipment needs, special requests and positions.
- Prepares final version of schedule for following day.
- Communicates all changes of schedule to appropriate departments in a timely fashion.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant or LPN preferred
- Two (2) to three (3) years of Surgery office scheduling or clerical experience is required.
- Medical terminology knowledge required.
- Advanced computer skills and experience with computerized scheduling system required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills necessary.
