How you'll contribute 

The Scheduler is responsible for scheduling all patients for ancillary, surgical, and medical testing/procedures/admissions, ensuring that patients are not scheduled when personnel are unavailable.  Also, Informs patient or physician's office staff of any carrier that is out of network or any issue that may result in a decrease of benefits. Informs patient or physician's office staff of any special instructions or testing requirements, and/or provides any other pertinent information or documents.
The Scheduler also maintains knowledge of the scheduling reports for the next day to ensure patient registration staff are aware of patients presenting for services; appropriate testing is performed; time is available; appropriate staff are available for testing or procedures to be performed.  

Other responsibilities include
 

  • Schedules patient testing/procedures/admissions 
  • Obtains pre-cert/authorization numbers and enters in the scheduling or registration system 
  • Obtains and enters accurate insurance information; answers incoming phone calls. 
  • Obtains physician's orders and authorization/pre-certification.
  •  Enters outpatient procedures in the Order Entry System.
  • Ensures consistency between scheduling module and admissions module, for patients being admitted for services.

Required Skills

Prior scheduling experience in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred. Medical terminology, billing, and/or collection experience preferred. 

Education

High school diploma or equivalent Required or at least three years of directly related experience may be substituted for the required education.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent or at least three years of directly related experience
  • Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Experience obtaining pre-cert/authorization numbers and entering them in scheduling or registration systems
  • Prior scheduling experience in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, billing, and/or collections
  • Ability to enter outpatient procedures in an Order Entry System and ensure consistency between scheduling and admissions modules
