General Summary:

Designs and prepares schedules necessary for the DART system; analyzes traffic checks and running times; calculates vehicle miles and hours; prepares schedule data and routing sheets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop efficient bus schedules, vehicle blocks, and runcuts using sophisticated transit scheduling techniques and software to reduce peak vehicles, driver runs and roster, driver pay hours, and insure a high level of on time performance and multi-route connectivity.

  • Develop and maintain scheduling data including stops, run times, patterns, deadheads, interline deadheads, route and pattern traces, blocks, driver run assignments and all supplemental data. Create and delete bus stops, supplemental stop information, and route patterns, runtime patterns.

  • Perform ride checks, point checks and trail checks in the field to confirm traffic checking reports and assure familiarity with the service.

  • Analyze traffic checks and APC passenger counts to evaluate service levels and makes appropriate adjustments for new and existing bus schedules. Analyzing running time by time of day using data from Transitmaster, ride checks, driver interviews, and coordination meetings with Transportation at the Bus Divisions.

  • Calculate miles and hours and applies costing formulas to analyze existing and proposed service costs. Insure accuracy of scheduling and cost estimates for all payroll records, driver run assignments, and public information.

  • Meet regularly with Service Planning staff, Transit Operations staff and Bus Divisions and Marketing staff to identify appropriate scheduling adjustments and public timetable adjustments. Assist in the design of new bus routes in the Short Range Planning Process.

  • Assists in the preparation of all mark-up materials. Prepares schedule reports and documentation as required.

  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints, transportation hotline calls and contacts from Field Supervisors regarding scheduling issues.

  • Provide instruction and coaching to the Schedule Analyst I to teach effective scheduling and runcutting techniques.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Planning or a related field.

  • Three (3) years experience in transit industry in dealing with detailed, technical information in departments involved with customer information, driver operations, transportation, bus/rail planning, or transit scheduling or other functions involved with schedules, times, calculations of pay hours, routes, or manpower assignments.

  • Valid Texas Class A, B, or C driver's license, no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.

  • Personal computer and related software applications.

  • Typical office equipment such as copier, typewriter, calculator, facsimile, etc.

  • Ability to demonstrate a fiduciary obligation to section, division, department, and DART in handling materials and information of a confidential nature.

  • Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services. Acts with customers in mind. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.

  • Ability to pick up on technical things quickly. Can learn new skills and knowledge. Is good at learning new industry, company, product, or technical knowledge. Does well in technical courses and seminars.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Planning or a related field
  • Three years of transit industry experience involving customer information, driver operations, transportation, bus or rail planning, transit scheduling, schedules, routes, pay-hour calculations, or manpower assignments
